1927: the sport crossed the Atlantic ocean
declared to be an offical game in France
1930 the first game (two against two) was played in
Santa Monica, the game became pretty famous in the
USA
1947 first two-team championship was held in
California, organized by active player Bernie
Holtzman, one year later the second
1965 The CBVA (California Beach Volleyball
Association) was founded, this association organized
tournaments and wrote down the rules
1987 first world beach volleyball championships were
held
1988 prize money grew up to a few million dollars,
same year: first tournament in German
1996 first time part of the Olympic ames in Atlanta, 24
men‘s teams, 18 women‘s teams

2 teams with 2 players
sand field with net in the middle
aim: to put the ball down on the other side of
the net, don‘t let the ball touch the ground of
your own field
ball can be played with every part of the body
serve into the oposite half
ball can be played three times before it has to
leave your part of the field
for each won game you get 1 point
you need two won game parts to be winner of
the whole game
first two parts: 21 points, third one: 15 points,
for winning the part, you have to be two points
ahead, otherwise the game is extended until
one team is two points ahead
every team has a break (30 sec.)
not allowed: to touch the ball two times in a
row
the rally continues until the ball touches the
ground, goes "out" or a team is not able to
return it properly
