Cut out the speaking frame cards if you want to use them. First player spins: o If it’s a 1, choose a picture in the 1 line. o If it’s a 2, choose one in the 2 line. o If it’s a 3, choose one in the 3 line. Describe the picture. Use the correct name. Like this: The Romans built aqueducts to get water from one place to another Then you can put your colour counter on the picture. Second player has a turn. Keep taking turns till one of you has a line of three counters, across, down or diagonal. They shout ‘Line up!’ and win. If you spin a number, but all of that number is covered by counters, you can ‘bump off’ the other player’s counter if you can correctly describe the picture. Play the game until one of you has five wins. *To make it harder, use the speaking frame cards. When you choose a picture, you must also choose an appropriate card and use it to make your answer. ©British Council 2014 Speaking frame cards: This is a ____________ , which … The Romans used__________ for … The Romans needed to … so they invented ___________ The Romans invented _______________ to … The Romans built ___________because… The Romans brought ___________ to Britain because… ©British Council 2014
