Middle school students must choose two books to read over the summer. The books should be on their ability level and something they are interested in. Students may choose any books they like that are appropriate. Students will choose one of the two books to design a game board book report for and they may demonstrate that they have read the other book in any creative way they choose. They can do a simple book report, a diorama, a skit, etc. It is completely up to them. Game Board Book Report The student will read a book and prepare a board game that relates to the book. Based on what the students have read they will identify: Goals for their board game Challenge Questions (25) Rules Directions for how to play The game board must include the following: Your name, the book title, and the game’s title somewhere on the game board Create at least 25 questions and answers for your game that relate to the book that you read. The questions must be somehow incorporated into playing the game. The format and purpose of your game must in some way relate to the book. Example: Game board is in the shape of a castle or the purpose is to escape the evil grandmother. Directions are created to explain how to play the game. Board Game Rubric Name: You are a board game manufacturer, and you have been assigned the task of creating a board game that will help students review everything they read in the book of your choice. The game should be created in a fun and interesting way. • Using supplies around the house create a game board. Make sure you include your name, the book title, and the game’s title somewhere on the game board. 33 Points Everything is neatly created and directions were followed completely. 32-22 Points Game board is excellent but some parts are a little sloppy. 21-15 Points Game board is complete but 1 or 2 elements are missing and it could be neater. 14-11 Points Most of the directions were ignored and the board is sloppy. 10-0 Points There is a game board but it is not colored and no extra efforts were made at creativity. • Create at least 25 questions and answers for your game that relate to the book that you read. The questions must be somehow incorporated into playing the game. 34 Points There are 25 questions and answers, and they are well incorporated into the game. 33-22 Points A couple of questions or answers are missing or incorrect. 21-15 Points Some questions are missing OR one could play the game with answering most questions. 14-11 Points Half of the questions are missing OR questions are hardly used in the game. 10-0 Points Many questions are incorrect or missing and very few are required to play the game. • The format and purpose of your game must in some way relate to the book. Directions are created to explain how to play the game. 33 Points The purpose of the game relates directly to the novel and the game board represents the theme. Directions are clear. 32-22 Points The purpose closely relates to the novel and the game board somewhat represents the theme. Directions are somewhat clear. 21-15 Points The purpose partially relates to the novel and the game board doesn’t clearly represent a theme. Directions are not clear. 14-11 Points The purpose slightly relates to the novel but does not represent a theme. Directions are not present. 10-0 Points It is unclear what the purpose and theme of the game are from the appearance. Directions are not present.
