Math 8 January 2013 Math Fair Project In groups of two, you will be working together to solve a mathematical puzzle. This project is an opportunity to be creative, explore new ideas, share your findings with your peers and have lots of fun. You will be given some class time to work on this project, so use your time wisely. Six Components to this project: 1. Select a mathematical puzzle 2. Solve the mathematical puzzle 3. Adapt the problem based on what you learned at Science World on March 6, 2013 4. Create a poster board presentation and design a physical object/layout 5. Present your mathematical puzzle to your classmates, peers, teachers and parents at the Math Fair on April 10, 2013 6. Personal reflection Please include the following in your Math Fair project Poster board o Write out the problem o Three hints to help solve the problem o Steps on how to solve the problem o Pictures, project title, presenter’s names Create or design a physical object/layout that can be used to show how to solve the problem Field Trip to Science World: In the different exhibitions in Science World, select one idea/concept that you can use in your mathematical puzzle (ie. instead of using coins, you use buttons). Personal Reflection: Please answer the following questions in complete sentences on a separate piece of paper (typed or handwritten): o o o o o Did you enjoy this project? Why or why not? What part of this project was the most difficult? How did you overcome this obstacle? How well did you work in a team? How did you adapt your problem based on what you learned at Science World? Would you like to do a Math Fair again? Why or why not?
