Prepositional phrases can have adjectives, nouns, pronouns, gerunds and conjuctions. www.lingoda.com 9 Prepositional phrases ENG_A2.1.0103G Please note Keep in mind that subjects and verbs are never part of a prepositional phrase. A good tip to recognize a prepositional phrase is to eliminate it from the sentence. If it still makes sense, you‘re good to go. Examples: The computer on the big brown desk is my dad‘s. But if you can still eliminate them without losing sense and still having a complete sentence, then they are prepositional phrases. Examples: I got a letter from James. I got a letter from my old college friend, James. In the case of adjectives, they can help answer the questions “which one?” Examples: The shirt that is on the bed is my favorite. Which shirt? The one on the bed. The red roses in the vase are mine. Which roses?
