Economics at NSF

We continue to be the largest SBE program, but
our funding is growing more slowly than the
overall SBE budget.
Last Year: 368 submissions, 36% funded.
High Success Rate due to an additional $4 million in
ARRA funds.
 ARRA funds exhausted
 Fall 2009: 30% increase in proposals.

New Small Grant Mechanisms

Grants for Rapid Response Research (RAPID)



Early-concept Grants for Exploratory Research
(EAGER)



Severe urgency with regard to availability of or access to data
and facilities.
Max of $200k/1 year.
Exploratory work on untested but potentially transformative
ideas or approaches.
Max of $300k/2 years.
Must contact Program Officer before submission.
