Phase two The Legacy continues…. Dear Families of St. Rose, I began my Phase 1 letter to you all with the words, “From humble beginnings, St. Rose of Lima has grown to be the vibrant community it is today.” Those words ring doubly true today as we enjoy a vividly transformed campus, expanded for all members of our community from the parish, the school and the ECC. Now more than ever we have much to be thankful for, including a parish community that continues to grow from the bottom-up! New families join us daily, drawn in by our remarkable sense of community and the personal care that we offer through our many services. Our success as a parish depends on continuing this tradition of servicing all of our parish needs through our common bond of faith in God and in our Church. We have been given a gift by those that came before and it is time to endow future generations of St. Rose families. The history of any parish is the story of visionary people who are willing to make generous sacrifices so that generations to come may enjoy the fruits of those gifts. Look around and say ‘Thank you’ in your heart to them. Look within...we can bless generations to come, as well. Father Clint Ressler, Pastor 3 Making room for all at the table of the Lord through loving service. -Mission of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Community Priorities with One Objective: Enhancing our Catholic Community As we saw with Phase 1 of our Legacy of Faith Capital Campaign, the entire St. Rose community will benefit from this long-term, shared vision for our St. Rose campus. Since the Fall of 2012, when our newest buildings came into use, we immediately began to realize the value of our space and how quickly our growing parish could again reach capacity. St. Rose will continue to be dynamic in its focus to be responsible stewards to our entire community and the gifts that God has given to us. As such, we again look toward building a future here at St. Rose that truly does have “room for all”. Here we Legacy of Faith Phase 1 Launched June 2010 Parking Lot Dedication July 2011 Groudbreaking Ceremony Sept 2011 Parish Early childhood center School Grow Construction Begins Jan 2012 New School Wing Opened Aug 2012 New ECC Wing Opens Sept 2012 Building Dedication Oct 2012 Legacy of Phase 1 Faith Phase 2 Launched Completed May 2013 Now Cause for $2.5 million Celebration Needs Fulfilled: Early Childhood Center Expansion With the opening of the new ECC expansion in September of 2012, sixty new families were welcomed to the program and all parishioners on the wait list at that time were offered spots. Four new classrooms were opened through the expansion and renovation of the space along with the creation of new office and resource areas, a reading nook and a welcoming reception area. The growth in our parish over the last decade has been from the bottom-up, with families of young children seeking a spiritual home to raise their families and a safe facility to meet their child care needs. Pre-K/Kindergarten School Wing and Pavilions The 2012 school year began with five new state-of-the-art classrooms opening up for our elementary school children. This expansion allowed for our youngest school children to move out of the original 1948 school building that was plagued by a continuing need for repairs and upgrades. The new classrooms include onsite restroom facilities, an open classroom environment and glass front facades that look out into the courtyard. Built along the North and South sides of the elementary courtyard are two new covered pavilions that allow for outdoor classroom experiences and play. Covered Walkways Access to the school, ECC, Parish Hall and the church is now available to our community without braving the elements of the ever changing Houston weather. Parking The newly paved lot on the corner of Wakefield and Brinkman has provided much needed overflow parking for Mass and events. Legacy of Faith - Facts by number (Based on figures through July 2013) 100: 220: 60: Number of events in the Parish Hall Enrollment at the school for 2013-2014 Number of new families welcomed at the ECC 70: Additional Parking spaces 168: Feet from school and ECC to the Church under cover 1927: Number of Registered Parish Households Phase 2 —the Legacy Continues $3.1 million Our Needs: New Parish Hall For years, St. Rose parish lacked a community space for functions like wedding receptions, funeral luncheons and parish meeting space. With permission from the Archdiocese, St. Rose was able to build the Parish Hall as part of Phase 1 construction, saving nearly $200,000. With our parishioners already fostering community within the Hall, it is now time to raise the money to cover the construction costs. Renovated Original School Wing As soon as the new ECC expansion opened in September of 2012, it was immediately at maximum capacity with a waiting list that has continued to grow. The renovation of the original 1948 school wing to be converted to Early Childhood Space will provide five newly renovated classroom spaces, allowing more St. Rose families to use the facility for their primary child care needs. Pursuing a Land Purchase In the short term, remodeling and expanding the original school classrooms and bathrooms will allow us to bring 100-120 more children into our care almost immediately, with tremendous benefits to families who have been patiently waiting for openings. In the long term, this increase in base enrollment, added into the school’s own population and growth, becomes the driving force enabling us to reach and complete our final master plan goal of new educational and athletic facilities. Chuck Pearce Parish Administrator The Garden Oaks community surrounding St. Rose of Lima is growing at an unprecedented rate, bringing in new and young families into our parish and allowing for growth of our parish community. In order to continue this path of growth, we need more space, and the purchase of property will allow our parish ministries and other organizations to have the additional space necessary to serve our community. Phase 3 — the Legacy fulfilled $6-$8 million Our Need: New Educational Facility With more than 100% growth in our school enrollment in just 5 years, the need for a new school building is more apparent than ever. This new two story educational facility would house both elementary and middle school students and would allow for continued growth of our school and community far into the future.
