Important Information for Drone Users

This holiday season the Federal Aviation Administration anticipates that millions of new Unmanned
Aircraft Systems (UAS); commonly referred to as drones, will be received as gifts and enter the US
Airspace System.
As the owner and operator of two airports in the State of New Hampshire, the Pease Development
Authority reminds everyone who plans to operate a drone or unmanned aircraft that the FAA considers
drones to be aircraft and has issued guidelines and rules for the safe operation of both recreational and
commercial drone users. Recreational UAS operators are those who are flying drones for sport and
enjoyment, and commercial UAS operators are those who fly the unmanned aircraft for compensation or
hire.
These regulations include altitude restrictions and the requirement to register your drone with the FAA.
All UAS Operators can register their drones on line at: www.faa.gov/uas/registration
In addition, operators of commercial and recreational unmanned aircraft intending to operate
within a five mile radius of the Portsmouth International Airport at Pease or Skyhaven Airport in
Rochester, NH must contact the Pease Airport Management Department at: 603-433-6536 to
coordinate flight activity with the air traffic control and airport users. Airport Management or the
tower may deny access to certain areas for flight safety reasons. Recreational UAS operations are
prohibited on the Pease Tradeport, and Pease Golf Course.
