Diary Dates
Village Fun Day
Brundall does “Time Team” Few! No old stock found.
In June we were delighted
to welcome a small team
of archaeologists into the
garden centre!
This year various properties
around Brundall hosted a small
test pit dug by a group of local
High School students.
Our turn came in June when
pupils from Taverham, City of
Norwich School and Notre
Dame spent two days digging a
test pit in the garden centre.
All under the direction of
Access Cambridge Archaeology.
We removed one of the plant
display stands to give the
student access to the ground
below. The pit was dug in 10cm
layers designed to help the
junior archaeologists work out
what type of material was being
discovered and what time
period it related to.
Our building has stood on the
site of both commercial and
residential premises. The test
pit covered many centuries.
Before the pit had to be closed
due to time constraints
evidence relating to the 1600’s
had been discovered. There
was still some way to go before
it was expected that the pit
would reach the natural soil
level.
Our pit revealed many artefacts including pre-decimal
coins, modern pottery, a 200
year old clay pipe. Some of the
really interesting finds related
to old tile and brick which
could well have pre-dated the
existing building. This shows
that there had been human
activity on the site of Brundall
Home Hardware for at least
400 years.
The students were very well
behaved and considerate to
their working environment. A
real credit to their respective
schools.
The whole event was
wrapped up with a visit from
Carenza Lewis of Time Team.

The Brundall and Acle Lions are
organising a Village Fun Day at
the Memorial Hall on Sunday 26
July from 12 noon.
Brundall Home Hardware will be
attending with our usual array of
fun and silly games, free balloons
etc.
This promises to be a really
great village event with lots of
activities for all age groups. Many
village groups will be
represented, there will be
arena events and a display of
classic cars.
All in all this promises to be a
great afternoon of village
entertainment. Make sure you
put the date in your diary.

Stop Moles!
We are often asked for
methods of controlling the
damage that moles can do
to a lawn.
An effective humane way to
treat this problem is a
sonic repeller from STV.
This one works by solar
power. Every few seconds

Yankee Candle is coming to Brundall Home Hardware!
We’ve established a relationship with Yankee Candle and will shortly
be making modifications to the top part of the shop to be able to
display this new range. Yankee
Candles are very popular with many
customers and provide an excellent
choice of lasting scents.
Small candles start at just £1.80 and
will burn for up to 10 hours. They
are designed in such a way that the
scent lasts right through the candle
and with slow burn times they
provide long lasting value. At home
we find that the large jars, burnt for
a few hours each day, will last up to
three months.
Yankee Candle recommend trimming the wick each time you burn the
candle. This will make the product last longer and burn cleaner. It will
also prevent the jar from becoming discoloured.
