CHADDERTON PARK FOOTBALL CLUB Under 9’s LIONS Chadderton Park Lions V Pennine C Home Date :13 Sept 08 Team Alex Knight, George Lengden, Callum Pollard Andrew Gregory, Rhys Chorlton Joe Gregory, Luke Smith, Lewis Unwin Josef Rimmer A beautiful late summer morning awaited Chaddy Park Lions U9's first game of the season. The first game always holds an air of optimism, and the lads didn't disappoint. Moving from 6 to 7 a-side had certainly seemed to benefit the side in pre-season and the opportunity to employ a target man in Luke Smith gave wingers Josef Rimmer and Lewis Unwin greater purpose. Joe Gregory was immense in central midfield, shrugging off a knee injury to score 4 goals! At the back, the ever reliable George Lengden was a force in every tackle, while Callum Pollard swept the ball confidently up field when winning back possession. Alex Knight was determined and brave in goal, making sure he was quick off his line whenever the opposition threatened. Substitute Andrew Gregory showed how well he has developed over the last 12 months and won the ball well whilst releasing it confidently. Rhys Chorlton made a late appearance, almost lining up a goal for his efforts. Lewis, Luke and Josef shared the other goals, showing what a good balance to the team there is in terms of goal scoring. Towards the end of the game, The Lions began to tire, showing their inexperience of playing 50 minutes in the hot weather. Although Pennine briefly rallied and scored 3 late on, the result was never really in doubt. Josef Rimmer received the man of the match trophy for his assists and unselfish play, as well as his goals. A great start to the season which puts us at the top of the table. Well done boys. Final score Chaddy Lions 8 , Pennine C 5 Scorers : Joe Gregory 4, Lewis Unwin 1, Luke Smith 1, Josef Rimmer 2. Man of match : Josef Rimmer
