Can you spare an hour or two a week to make Christchurch a better

CCP SCHOOLS NEWSLETTER 1: May 2017
Christchurch Community Partnership is a charity that works to improve the quality of life for Christchurch people,
by enabling residents and agencies to work together for the benefit of the whole community.
As a member of the Christchurch Learning Federation, you may be aware of some of the things we do.
We are producing this newsletter in the hope that we can help schools and you might be able to help us.
As a volunteer led charity, we work on a shoestring, so have no funds available but we do have links and
work with other charities and agencies and hope to be able to support you in different ways.
In this introductory newsletter we will outline some of the projects we run and those we are developing.
Please make use of any items of interest by including them in your newsletter to get the word out to parents
to get involved in our community!
Neighbour Cars provides transport for medical related activities for
residents who find it difficult to use public transport. The service is
provided by volunteer drivers and co-ordinators.
Drivers: We have a great bunch of drivers and are always keen to
welcome new drivers, as we have had to turn down some clients recently.
Co-ordinators deal with phone calls every morning between 9-12 taking
bookings and arranging drivers. Perhaps parents or 'soon to retire' staff
might be interested in helping.
Random Act of Kindness:
Meal Cards: This very
successful scheme allows
people to donate meals at
local cafes for vulnerable
and isolated people of all
ages who would benefit
from eating with others.
Win on Waste is coming to Christchurch!
Items thrown into rubbish or recycling bins, or taken to the tip, may be needed by a voluntary groups or schools.
By promoting re-use and recycling and reducing the amounts going to land fill, the environment is helped
We just need a co-ordinator. Would someone at your school be willing to organise a monthly one hour collection?
We Need That directory lists 79 items and 44 organisations and individuals, including DORSET SCRAPSTORE, which
collects materials suitable for use in art, craft, education and play, making them available to schools at a low cost.
Schools can sign up for items listed in the register that would be of use to them. Sign up: [email protected]
Would your school be willing to have a monthly one off collection of re-usable items? Please let us know
Is there anything you need that we can help you with?
Publicity? Helpers? An issue that needs addressing? An off site meeting room?
Let us know by contacting us: details overleaf.
The Homeless Help group works with
other agencies and individuals, to coordinate provision and information for
rough sleepers. CCP produces a Rough
Sleeper info card and works with You
Trust, to provide a weekly Drop In
support session for single people with
complex needs seeking
accommodation.
Christchurch Helpful Neighbours. This scheme, which starts in
June, provides help with small tasks for elderly people. It may
be changing a light bulb, reading or writing a letter, walking a
dog: things previously easily done. No regular commitment is
required; people need only put their names on a list to be
contacted and can turn down any assignment that is not
convenient. Volunteers will need to be DBS checked and
undergo approximately two hours training.
Young People Matter: working with the Christchurch
Learning Federation supporting young people suffering
with anxiety and depression, by upskilling existing staff in
schools, providing parenting courses and parental support
and website information. The next phase is to look at
provision for those not in schools.
Christchurch Angels targets local people in need of short
term support and/or befriending. Support is provided by
volunteers, supervised by a paid co-ordinator and
assistant. The project has historically attracted
substantial funding but is now seeking funding from
other sources.
For parents:
Our new office: At last we have moved in to our new
premises at 43 Barrack Road. We now have facilities
available for meetings, training etc. Just contact us to
make arrangements.
Lunch Club: Working with Bailey's Café, we run a Lunch Club
for seniors living alone, enabling them to enjoy a meal with
others. In June we are linking with Dial a Bus and Brendoncare
friendship club to provide lunch and an afternoon out.
Happy hour at Bailey's Café, Barrack Road
each morning: why not drop meet up with
friends between 9-10 for tea or coffee and
choice of yummy cakes for £1
Dial a Bus provides weekly shopping trips and
excursions for residents who find it difficult to use
public transport. Both of our buses are available
for community use when not booked.
If you want to get involved and make a contribution to the community of Christchurch,
get in touch and see if we can help you!
