You will be making the entire box yourself with my helpful guidance every step of the way. This Course will introduce a huge range of fine furniture making techniques. This box features a through dovetailed carcass with floating panels for the both the top and bottom. The box is then lined with jarrah and a piston fit upper tray will be made with mitred corners and contrasting keys. The dividers in the upper tray will be exposed birds mouth mitres. This upper tray will be finely fitted so that it floats into position on a cushion of air. We will use fine brass hinges that stop at 95 degress. The fitting of a mortise lock and escutcheon is optional and will depend on the time remaining. COURSE OUTLINE: The construction of the Jewellery Box will include the following joinery and techniques: Hand planed carcass components joined by through dovetails. Floating panels for the top and bottom. Cutting the top of the box free from the base after glue up and hand planning the surfaces so that they mate perfectly. Shooting box liners to the perfect fit. Making a piston fit upper tray. Cutting birds mouth mitres for the dividers of the upper tray. The accurate fitting of hinges. We also discuss how to prepare the components for a beautiful finish and then discuss the various finishing options available and how to apply the selected finish.
