Communication: Players, Coaches and Parents Playing Time

Communication: Players, Coaches and Parents
No parent-coach discussions will take place directly after a game or practice.
(Parents please note: We follow the “24 Hour Rule” - meaning we ask you to
wait twenty-four hours before contacting our Head Coach, as outlined here). If
there is an issue or concern, players are asked to first talk with their position
coach. If the issue is not resolved at this level, the player must talk with the
Head Coach. If the issue is not resolved after the player has spoken with his
position coach and the Head Coach, parents may then contact the Head Coach
at school to set up a conference. All conferences will take place at Rising Sun
High School and in the presence of a member of the RSHS Administration.
Topics that will not be discussed at conferences:
- Scheme or play calling
- Other players
- Coaching decisions
Playing Time
Playing time is determined by a combination of factors, with football ability and
hard work being two of the most prominent. A player that loafs and lazes at
practice – or one that misses practice altogether - simply will not play. A player
who always works hard but can not get the job done on the field may also see a
diminishment of playing time. Not all players automatically play in every game.
Players have to be able to get the job done on the field. At the varsity level we
play to win the game, as pursuit of a State Championship is our ultimate goal.
We recognize and value our JV program as a solid developmental experience
for our younger, less experienced players. However, and at both levels, no
player will receive playing time based on anything other than football ability and
hard work. No player will receive preferential treatment. With this said, our
overall goal is to try to get as many players on the field as possible over the
course of both our Varsity and junior varsity seasons – based on their combined
positive impact on our team and our program.
Conduct
All team members are expected to act as positive role models and citizens.
Inappropriate language, swearing, obscene gestures, and fighting will not be
permitted at any time. Student-Athletes who break team rules of conduct will
be subject to appropriate discipline at the discretion of Head Coach, Athletic
Director and School Principal.
Locker Room
Only RSHS football players are permitted in the locker room. All team
members are responsible for keeping their lockers and the locker room clean.
All equipment issued should be stored and hung up properly in the player’s
locker. NO fighting, horseplay, inappropriate behavior, etc. will be permitted in
the locker room. No hazing of any kind will be tolerated.
Travel
All athletes must travel and return with the team. Exceptions will be made if the
player receives prior approval from the Head Coach. Players with prior
approval must be signed out by the parent taking them home. NO player is
permitted to leave with another player’s parents. This is a CCPS policy and is a
liability issue.
The Mission of Generic High School
is to inspire students to develop a love of learning
and empower them to become self-sufficient adults
through effective and challenging instruction,
extra-curricular activities and a wide range of
experiences in a safe and supportive community.
Our goal at GHS Mascot Football is to build a program with a rich
tradition of success. We stress a team first approach and lessons of
value that go far beyond football.
Our Priorities
Character – Family – Academics – Football
Our Pillars of Success
Commitment – Discipline – Effort – Toughness – Pride
If our players, make a total commitment with all the necessary sacrifices, have
the discipline to consistently do the right things and pay attention to detail, give
a great, relentless effort, maintain a level of mental toughness through the
adversity that is bound to occur, and take a tremendous amount of pride in their
accomplishments without becoming complacent, then they will be successful in
any endeavor they attempt IN THEIR LIVES..
Doing the right things the right way will lead to success on the field and help
make GHS Football a special and rewarding experience for our young men.
Please join us in this mission. The following guidelines define expectations for
all involved in the program.
PARENTS
1.
Parents should be as positive and supportive as possible toward our
student-athletes, coaches and administrators.
2.
Parents agree to provide encouragement and assistance in helping their
student-athletes involved in the program meet all program standards,
obligations, and commitments as outlined here.
3.
Parents should keep in mind the ages/abilities of these student-athletes
and remember that high school football is a vital and important aspect of
each players overall scholastic expereince here at GHS. Also remember
that while this is no longer junior football, it is also not college or
professional football. Participants in this program should be encouraged to
do their best, whatever their level of performance is. Jeering, taunting,
making verbal threats, using profanity, or otherwise belittling our program,
players or staff is unacceptable behaviour and will not be tolerated.
4.
Parents are reminded that they, too, are representitives of the Generic High
School Football Family and, by extension, Generic High School itself. As
such, we would hope that their behavior at all times will most positively
reflect our program and institution, and keep the focus where it should be,
which is on our student-athletes and their unified efforts on the playing
field.
PLAYERS: The Generic High School Athletics Program
encourages student-athletes to learn not only the fundamentals
of their sport, but also the importance of education for the
development of sound mind, body and character. GHS Mascot
Football also believes that participation on our team requires a
unique and dedicated commitment from each and every
participant. As a student-athlete participating in the Generic High
School Mascot Football program:
1. I pledge to do my best in school and make every effort to maintain
the highest grades I am capable of achieving. I understand that if I
do not keep up my grades I will lose the privilege of participating in
this program.
2. I pledge to do my best to attend every team function, practice, and
game for the 2013-14 season.
3. I pledge to do my best on the field, be a good sport, and
concentrate on teamwork, leadership, and good sportsmanship. I
understand it is my responsibility to conduct myself with dignity and
class whenever I am engaged in any activity as a representative of
Generic High School, and I understand and accept that any
violation of this pledge may result in forteiture of playing time or
other discipline, at the discretion of my Head Football Coach.
GHS Mascot Football Attendance Policy:
It is crucial for players to understand the importance of being at practice
on time everyday. All players are expected at every practice, rain or
shine. If a player is at school, that player should be at practice. If a
player gets sick at school or another problem arises, the player must
see or contact the Head Coach before they go home. Otherwise, it will
be considered an unexcused absence. All players are expected to be
on time - and prepared - to practice everyday. All excused absences
from practice must be pre-approved (at least a day ahead of time) by
the Head Coach. Any team member, who needs extra academic
assistance after school, must have prior approval before being excused
from any practice. Approval will be granted only after a signed note
from the assisting teacher is presented to the Head Coach. Upon return
to practice, the athlete requires a signed & timed note. Players who
miss practice (for any reason) must understand that – regardless of the
reason for their missing practice – a teammate was at practice in their
place, taking reps and preparing with the team. Since the biggest
factor determining playing time is a consistent demonstration of quality,
positive, evolving and proper alignment, assignment, technique and
execution, it stands to reason that the inability to be at practice to
demonstrate those very things to your coaches and teammates would
be a very bad thing for any player individually, and our team as a unit.
