Barleymont Fairlop Montessori Nursery STAFF : CHILD RATIOS POLICY At Barleymont Fairlop Montessori Nursery the safeguarding and care of the children in our care is paramount. To this end we follow to the letter OfSTED recommendations with regards to the adult:child ration. A high adult : child ratio is essential in providing good quality Nursery care. To meet this aim we use the following rations of adult to child: - Children under two years 1 adult: 3 children - Children aged two years 1 adult: 4 children - Children aged three – seven 1 adult: 8 children A minimum of two staff/adults are on duty at any one time. For Children aged Under Two (Baby Room): In this room we have: One staff member to every three babies; The Room Leader/Supervisor holds an NVQ 3 in Childcare and Development and has been working with babies for over 6 years, and had also been trained in the care of babies; All other staff in the Baby Room are either NVQ 2 or 3 qualified; and Every staff member in this room have been trained in Paediatric First Aid certified by the Local Authority For Children Aged Two (Toddlers Room): In this room we have: One staff member to every four children; The Room Leader/Supervisor holds an NVQ 3 in Childcare and Education and has been working with children of these age group for over 5 years; EYP Certificate PGCE in Early years Every other staff member in the Room holds an NVQ 2 in Childcare and Education; and Every staff member in this Room have been trained in Paediatric First Aid certified by the Local Authority For Children Aged Three or over (Preschool): In this room we have: One staff member to every eight children; Policy Documents Barleymont Group. - April 2017, Child Ratio Policy The Room Leader/Supervisor holds an NVQ 3 in Childcare and Education and has been working with children of these age group for over 5 years; EYP Certificate PGCE in Early years Every other staff member in the Room holds an NVQ 2 in Childcare and Education; and Every staff member in this Room have been trained in Paediatric First Aid certified by the Local Authority Key Person: We also use a key person system to ensure that each child and each family has a particular member of staff for discussion and consultation on the child’s development and needs. This also ensures that every child’s care is tailored to meet their individual needs, offering them a settled relationship and building a relationship with their parents.
