FLORIDA Small League Tournament Guidelines (Revised November 2016) 1. Small league tournaments will be offered once a year. Date and site will be selected each year by the Florida BR Executive Committee. 2. Small league tournaments will be invitational. All teams who qualify for small leagues will also be eligible to participate in the regular District Tournaments in their district. 3. Leagues qualify (6u, 8u, 10u, 12u or 15u) if they have less than 39 players registered in the league. Examples: Less than 39 players age 5-6 to be eligible for T Ball (6u). Less than 39 players age 7-8 to be eligible for Rookie (8u). Less than 39 players age 9-10 to be eligible for Minor (10u). Less than 39 players age 11-12 to be eligible for Major (12u). Less than 39 players age 13-15 to be eligible for the 15u division. 4. Teams do not qualify for small league status, if they play any games outside of BR/CR competition. This includes games scheduled with travel teams or games played in travel tournaments. Sanctioned BR/CR extra play such as COBRA play are acceptable. 5. Any small league must show proof of advertisement, tryout and a fair and equitable draft. 6. Any small league park who meets the criteria in #3 who fields more than one all star team will be able to send one team to the Small League Tournament and the other to the State “B” tournament in the 10u, 12u divisions only. A Small League can only send one team per division. 7. Small league all star teams cannot be travel teams, regardless of the distribution of players during the regular season. Example: A travel team who plays in a park, distributes players evenly on teams during the regular season, but then becomes the parks all star team, qualifies as an “A” tournament team, not a small park team. 8. After considering the above criteria for identifying a league as a small league, the District Commissioner recommends the league to the State Commissioner or his designee for approval to participate in the Small League State Invitational Tournament. Any appeal to the above criteria must be initiated at the District Commissioner level. 6u (T Ball) – Small league teams in this age group will compete with “B” teams beginning at the qualifier level. Bracket winners will advance to the State Tournament. Small league T Ball teams will compete at the same qualifier and state tournament site as “A” and “B” T Ball teams. 10u, 12u70, 15u – Teams qualifying in these age groups will compete for a state tournament title in each of the age groups at the same small league tournament in Ft Whie. 8u Rookie will participate in a State Tournament in Lake City for 2017.
