CONFERENCE 2 HIV ENDGAME: STOPPING THE SYNDEMICS THAT DRIVE HIV Save the Date! November 21-22, 2016 As Ontario’s HIV Strategy to 2026 notes: “HIV is only one health issue facing the populations most affected by HIV. Most people with or at risk of HIV are coping with a combination of health, social and structural factors— syndemics—that affect their health.” Syndemics play out differently in each of the populations most affected by HIV. But all communities with high HIV prevalence experience the disproportionate impact of social and structural inequities. This conference will highlight the most recent research on the syndemics within each population and explore interventions and approaches that can stop syndemics or mitigate their impact on health. Our aim is to help Our aim is to help achieve the goals of Ontario’s HIV Strategy to 2026 – particularly goal one: improve the health and well-being of populations most affected by HIV. We invite abstract submissions from research teams and community-based organizations on the following topics: Syndemics and intersectionality Effective behaviourial, social and structural strategies/interventions to address syndemic factors that have an impact on populations most affected by HIV including: adverse childhood events; trauma; mental health issues; substance use; poverty; food security; housing; employment; stigma and discrimination; racism; immigration issues; social isolation; criminalization; incarceration Community-based or collaborative interventions to enhance engagement and retention in care, adherence, resilience and/or overall health and well-being Culturally safe programs and services Innovative approaches to enhance resilience Innovations in HIV prevention Effective collaborations within the health care system and with other human services to prevent HIV infection and/or improve the health of people living with HIV Effective community supports for people aging with HIV ABSTRACT SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS Abstracts will be submitted electronically through the conference registration website: https://www.eiseverywhere.com/eSites/endgame-social/Homepage Deadlines The deadline to submit an abstract for HIV Endgame: Stopping the Syndemics that drive HIV is August 26, 2016. The results of the peer review process will be communicated by email to the submitting author the week of September 23, 2016. Language of abstract Your abstract should be in English or French and will be published in the language of submission. Abstract length and format Abstracts can be submitted in two formats: Standard written format Two-minute video Standard written format: The abstract title should be no more than 25 words and the body of the abstract should not exceed 300 words in length. The abstract should include a section on the purpose of the research, highlight the results, and outline recommendations or next steps. Two-minute video: As an alternative to a written abstract, applicants may submit a video explaining their research. The video should not exceed 2 minutes in length and must clearly articulate purpose of the research, highlight the results, and outline recommendations or next steps. Presentation format Please indicate whether you are submitting an abstract for an oral, or a poster presentation. Please note that only a limited number of oral presentation slots are available.
