NEBB Regional Squads
Code of Conduct Agreement for Young Players,
Parents/Guardians & Other Adults
The North East Basketball Board wishes to provide the best possible
environment for all young people involved in the sport and on our regional
squads. Young people deserve to be given enjoyable and safe sporting
opportunities, free from abuse of any kind. These participants have rights,
which must be respected, and responsibilities, that they must accept, to treat
other participants and sports leaders with fairness and respect.
Guidelines for Players
Young Basketball players should always:
 Treat coaches & volunteers with respect
 Do their best, both in training and games.
 Play fairly at all times
 Attend training - If a player misses more than 2 training sessions his/her
place on the squad is not assured.
 Be on time for training and games.
 Cheer on and support their teammates.
 Respect referees, table officials and area board officials.
 Show respect to their teammates, coaches and opponents.
 Respect fellow players, even when things go wrong
 Respect opponents, and be gracious in defeat
 Follow the direction of managers/coaches and trip organisers.
 Abide by the rules set down by team managers when travelling to events
 Behave in a manner that avoids bringing the sport of basketball into
disrepute - on away/overnight trips players should endeavour to represent
their club, region, the NEBB, and themselves to the highest possible standard.
 Talk to the children’s officer if they have any problems
Young Basketball players should never:
 Cheat
 Use violence or physical contact in an aggressive manner
 Shout or argue with club officers, coaches, fellow players or opponents
 Harm fellow players, opponents or their property
 Bully or use bullying tactics to isolate another player.
 Use unfair or bullying tactics to gain advantage
 Take alcohol, tobacco or any illegal substances
 Tell lies about adults / young people involved with our sport
 Spread rumours
 Use mobiles phones in changing rooms and toilets or as a form of bullying.
e.g. taking photos of individual/s where no consent has been sought or given
 Guidelines for Parents/Guardians & Other Adults
The North East Basketball Board requires that all parents and adults should
 Be a positive role model for the players and maintain the highest standards
of conduct when interacting with children, parents, and officials and
organisers.
 Never intentionally expose any young participant to embarrassment or
disparagement by the use of flippant or sarcastic remarks.
 Always recognise the value and importance of the volunteers , referees,
table-officials and treat them with respect
 Communicate with the coaches in an appropriate manner, and not publicly
question the judgement or honesty of coaches, volunteers, organisers and
others.
I understand and agree to abide by the Code of Conduct of the North East
Basketball Board NE Knights Squads
I accept that any infringement of these codes will lead to the suspension or loss of
the player’s position on the panel and loss of deposit for the same.

