My visit to the
Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum
Today, I am going to the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum.
At the Museum I will explore with my family. We will
learn new things and have a lot of fun today!
There will be other families at the Museum. If I want to, I
can say hello to them or introduce myself.
When we get to the Museum, we will go inside the Lobby
and we will see a table and some people who work at the
Museum. At the table, my adult will tell the Museum
staff members our names.
I can write my name on a name tag and wear it on my
clothes if I want.
The Museum staff members are grown-ups that are here
to help me learn and have fun with my family. They can
answer my questions or help me if I get lost.
If I want headphones, sunglasses or a smock, I can
borrow them from the Museum.
There are many fun things to do at the Museum. I will
look at my map with my adult and we will decide where
to go first.
Then, we will walk up the stairs or take the elevator.
The stairs are special. Each step makes a sound when I
walk on it. The sound is not very loud, but if I don’t like it,
I can use the elevator instead.
On the First Floor I can play in the water gallery if my
adult says it’s ok. If I don’t want to get wet I can wear a
smock over my clothes.
I will be very careful in this gallery because the floor can
get slippery. I will make sure to walk slowly so that I
don’t fall.
There is also a pretend house and an ambulance on this
floor.
If I’d like, I can try some science experiments in the
classrooms on this floor.
If I need, I can use the bathroom or have a snack in the
vending area.
The Mezzanine has a Preschool Gallery.
On regular days, this gallery is just for little kids under 4
years old and their grown-ups. During My Turn, the
Preschool Gallery is open for everybody to have fun!
Upstairs, on the Second Floor, there are many things to
do. I can try to make a bubble, visit a pretend store, and
learn about magnets.
I can play with the Sensory Playscape here when it is my
turn to do so.
If I need to take a break, I can hang out in the quiet room
located in the Michigan Nature Gallery.
I can also use the bathrooms on this floor or take a drink
from the water fountain if I am thirsty.
The Third Floor is where I can learn about light and
optics and I can even play the stringless Laser Harp.
The very top floor is the Fourth Floor. Here I can learn
about television and see myself on a TV screen!
I do not have to visit every floor if I don’t want to.
When I am ready to leave, I will tell my adult.
If my adult says it’s ok, I can visit the Museum store in
the Lobby when we are leaving.
