Report of 2016 Bembridge Visit

Report of Bembridge Visit 2016
Once again the Bowls club completed an enjoyable and successful visit to the open fours
competition at Warners Bembridge venue. There were 30 members and friends who braved
the waters of the Solent to set foot on the Isle of Wight for a most enjoyable 4 night break,
expertly arranged and managed for us by Kay Green. Accommodation and food received
laughter at the dining tables a jolly good time was had by all.
On the bowling side there were mixed results after the three guaranteed matches with Mick
and Lilian Bridewell, Ken Richardson and Una Whale managing 2 wins but just failing to
reach the quarter finals on shot
difference and 3 teams with 1 win
each.
Chic and June, who travelled as a
pair, were married with a pair in
the same situation, i.e. Vic and
Sheila Barnes from Steyning bowls
club in Sussex. They carried the
Knockholt tradition into the final
against 4 men from Portchester
bowls club.
The 11-end game was close in the end with KBC reps being 9-0 down after 3 ends, but with
June leading the fight back with some sterling work brought us to 10 all at the 9th end. The
10th end saw us drop 1 shot, but we were holding 2 shots on the 11th end until the
Portchester skip drew the shot and we were unable to better the score.
