Purpose:
The Team Captain is the link between the Team Manager and Coach, and the
Athletes. It can be the role of the Team captain to represent the views of the
Athletes within the team, and contribute to the Team’s successful outcome
at Competitive Meets through providing advice and guidance from an
Athlete perspective.

The specific commitment for the Team Captain is the actual Meet.
However, the time commitment for being a positive role model is ongoing!

Key Tasks of the Team Captain
DUTIES
 Ensure you are accessible on a daily basis for the athletes to make contact and talk to about
any comments they may have
 Let the young athletes know who you are and find out their needs at the Meet
 Be a positive role model for all members of the team
 Communicate with fellow team members, and provide support and advice
where needed
 Ensure you will be seen as a role model at all times and someone that the other athletes in
the team may look up to
 Be on time or even early for team meetings, meals, warm up and meet
 Offer to help and support others e.g. help those athletes who are on clean up roster
 Attend team meetings and represent the views of the athletes
 Be positive and constructive in your views. In raising ideas and suggestions to the Coach,
Team Manager and athletes, always try and focus on the positives and the outcomes of the
point you are making
TOP TIPS FOR BEING AN EFFECTIVE TEAM CAPTAIN

Set up and over see a suggestion box for athletes to write down and post their thoughts on
the Meet (this is an anonymous/non-threatening way).
Provide ideas and suggestions to the Coach and Team Manager on areas to develop the
Team spirit and performance at the Meet
Remind athletes of the code of conduct
Mentor other young athlete and help them in developing their skills

volunteer will not create an employment relationship between you and the club.
