PRESS RELEASE // SEPTEMBER 2011 125 Old Broad Street London EC2N 1AR T 020 7760 8777 F 020 7760 8799 www.7im.co.uk ASSURED CAREERS FOR A WINNING TEAM OF PLANNERS – “NEVER HAVE SO FEW BEEN NEEDED BY SO MANY” Job crisis? What job crisis? For anybody wanting a career as a Professional Financial Planner it seems that there has never been such a good time to be entering the profession. The demand for qualified Planners and Advisers seems to be at an all time high. With the effects of the Retail Distribution Review exam qualification requirements forcing many out, there is going to be a distinct shortage of trained enthusiasts. Add to this the backdrop of economic and financial worries, the demand for professional advice and planning has reached record levels. How refreshing therefore, to highlight a team of talented professional planners in the making. The bright young team from Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) were the recent winners of the Institute of Financial Planning (IFP) & Seven Investment Management (7IM) University Team Challenge Cup. The competition pitted different teams against one another to put together a comprehensive financial plan for a case study. Lucy Courtenay, Qualifications Director at the IFP, said: “We were so impressed by the quality of preparation for their report and the written pack itself, together with their presentations”. Justin Urquhart Stewart, Director of 7IM, who was also helping with the judging added: “This standard was really encouraging and frankly raised the bar of the standard of client plans and proposals: very professional, clear and understandable. What a credit to this growing and vital profession.” The team: Sarah-Jane Davies, Tom Parker, Josh Guile and Carla Gardner have all secured new roles within financial planning and are enthusiastic about getting started. Carla summed up her team’s joy on the day: “I am so proud and pleased that we won. It was quite a challenge but will serve us all in good stead for the start of our careers – just itching to get going now!”. Trevor Williamson, Programme Leader for the BA(Hons) Financial Services, Planning & Management degree at MMU said: “We are delighted to have won this cup again and especially pleased for our team who really showcased their technical and communication skills in their presentation. I am just so pleased that we have been able to launch them into what I believe will be very successful careers” Nick Cann, CEO of the IFP, added: “As the profession develops, the need becomes greater to find and support young people who wish to start a career in Financial Planning. Apart from the obvious need and opportunities, this initiative helps the students develop the skills that are needed in the workplace. The new degree programme will also ensure that there is a greater connection with Universities and the profession.” - Ends For more information, please contact Justin Urquhart Stewart, 7IM Nick Cann, IFP : : : 020 7760 8700 / 07866 427626 or [email protected] 0117 945 2470 or [email protected] Seven Investment Management Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.
