Weekly School News
First Holy Communion
This will take place on this Saturday 14 May at 10.30am in St Brigid’s Church. A note for the P4 classes
and the Choir was sent out last week. We wish all the children and their families every best wish and
blessing on this very important occasion.
May Procession
Our May Procession will take place on Monday 16 May at 11.00am beginning from the Turning Circle in
the school and proceeding to St Clare’s Convent and then returning to finish at our School Grotto. I
hope as many of you as possible can attend. Children are asked to wear their Holy Communion
clothes to school to allow for individual photographs to be taken. They will then change into their
school tracksuits after the May Procession and photographs.
Celebrating 150 years with the Redemptorists
This year we are celebrating 150 years with the Redemptorists. To celebrate this event the
Redemptorists have organised a pilgrimage to take an icon of our Mother of Perpetual Help to the 26
Cathedrals in Ireland. The icon will visit Newry Cathedral on 10 May and will remain in the Cathedral
overnight. A Mass of Welcome will be held at 7.30pm on Tuesday 10th. Could we ask any families
attending this mass to let the school know and school children attending should wear full school
uniform. Also, a number of P7 pupils will be attending a prayer service for Primary Schools at 11.30am
on Wednesday 11 May.
P7 Mrs Quinn’s class
A group photograph of Mrs Quinn’s P7 class will also be taken on Monday 16 May. Please ensure your
child is in full school uniform.
Author Declan Carville Visits
Declan will be visiting our P1, P2, P3 and P6 classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of this week.
This proved a very enjoyable experience for our children last year and I know they are eagerly
awaiting his visit this year.
P6 Transfer Meeting
If you are considering entering your child in the Transfer Tests organised by the Grammar schools a
meeting for Parents will be held in School on Thursday 12 May at 11.00am. Do not worry if you are
unable to attend as a summary of what is said at the meeting will be issued to those parents who
cannot attend.
Girls Gaelic Football Blitz
A Girls Gaelic Football Blitz will take place in Pairc Esler on Tuesday 10 May from 10.30am to 12.30pm for
selected P6 & P7 girls.
