Week 9 - Term 1 30th March 2017 Dear Parents and Caregivers, An apology from both myself and the Board of Trustees. Our lovely Mrs Stevenson has been back at school for a few hours each week to get our School Accounts prepared and sent out. Unfortunately she has beaten us with a note of explanation. Here it is. At the first Board of Trustees meeting this year the Board decided to make school donations $95 per child. The Operation Grant that we receive each year to run the school is just not allowing us to make ends meet. The Government has put a Freeze on any increases to this Grant, therefore it is necessary to raise the fees. It has always been $95 for 1 child and then allowances for further children. Donations allow us to employ Teacher Aides which are not Government Funded but are really valuable in our school. There are several options available to you for paying. Several families make Direct Credits’ each week – some pay so much each term and others choose to make a one off payment. We are extremely grateful to receive your donations as it makes a huge difference to the education of your children and the running of the school. We are delighted to announce that we have enough interest to run a Triple P programme here at school during term 2. Mrs Blatchford will make contact with you personally next term. If you didn’t get your forms back but would still like to participate please see Rebecca or Brenda. To try to prevent some of the congestion in the Car Park after school I would like to try something for the last two weeks of the term. If we could try and stagger our pickups from the Car Park so that we have two groups entering – One at 3pm and another at about 3.10pm or after. If you are able to wait until about 3.10 to arrive at school we would really appreciate seeing if this is going to make a difference. This is up to you, but let’s see what difference we can make with a simple change. All children will be dismissed at 3pm from their classes and held in the Activity Centre by the staff until parents arrive just as is happening now. I think it is worth a try. 1 SPORTS INFORMATION We are getting into the winter season sports in a big way with most of our children participating in one way or the other. Please remind your children that being part of a team is really important and that participation and playing fair with a positive attitude is paramount. Our School Fairplay Promise for both players and parents is attached. Take the opportunity to share these with your family. Help Please Netball begins tonight for the Year 3 and 4 players. Thanks to Tracey Mouat, Jayne Mossman, Angela Strawbridge and Clare Long for making this happen. Miss Ellery is the teacher in charge of netball this year so please see her if you need support. Have a wonderful season and watch Facebook for any changes to set times or cancellations/postponements. This year we have six netball teams and therefore not enough uniforms. Is there anyone out there who knows of someone or who would be prepared to sponser, subsidise or help with fundraising so we can purchase another set please? See Brenda or Kate Basketball tomorrow. Make sure your child has the proper gear at school to participate with Miles. If wet Miles will still come to school to work with the children. We have a group of basketballers’ who would love to be able to participate in the Palmerton North Basketball competition. If you are interested in coaching or managing a Basketball Team please let the office or Brenda know. The games are played at Arena Manawatu on a Wednesday afternoon. The first game is 10th May 2017. We have the information about Primary School Hockey. If we have a parent that would be prepared to coach or manage this please, let us know so that we can offer this to our children. Colyton Soccer – Term 2. Attached to this newsletter is a form for parents to complete for students’ who want to play soccer at Colyton on a Monday after school. The cost is $5 per child and the competition only runs for Term 2. The first game is 8th May and the last is 3rd July. The players will wear their school uniforms and need boots and shin pads. Please add you name if you can coach or manage a team. Cross Country Training begins next term and we are looking for land near school on which to train. You may have noticed that the Pine trees on our old training ground have been felled in preparation for the land to be subdivided. If you can make any suggestions we’d be extremely grateful. 2 Tuesday 4th April is our Hiwinui Community Planning Session with the Manawatu District Council here at school from 7.30pm.
