If, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g. elevation changes, wind speed, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3. Embedded Ball Through the green, a ball that is embedded may be lifted, cleaned and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the course through the green. Note: A ball is “embedded” when it is in its own pitch-mark and part of the ball is below the level of the ground. Exceptions: 1. A player may not take relief under this Local Rule if the ball is embedded in sand in an area that is not closely-mown. 2. A player may not take relief under this Local Rule if interference by anything other than the condition covered by this Local Rule makes the stroke clearly impracticable. Accidental Movement of a Ball on a Putting Green Rules 18-2, 18-3 and 20-1 are modified as follows: When a player’s ball lies on the putting green, there is no penalty if the ball or ball-marker is accidentally moved by the player, his partner, his opponent, or any of their caddies or equipment. The moved ball or ball-marker must be replaced as provided in Rules 18-2, 18-3 and 20-1. This Local Rule applies only when the player’s ball or ball-marker lies on the putting green and any movement is accidental. Note: If it is determined that a player’s ball on the putting green was moved as a result of wind, water or some other natural cause such as the effects of gravity, the ball must be played as it lies from its new location. A ball-marker moved in such circumstances is replaced if the marked ball was lifted. Flooded Bunkers Bunkers affected by flooding and defined on a list in the Professional’s shop are GUR (ground under repair). These affected bunkers should be identified with blue posts. If a player’s ball lies in that bunker or if that bunker interferes with the player’s stance or the area of his intended swing and the player wishes to take relief, he must take relief outside the bunker, without penalty, in accordance with Rule 25-1b(i). ALL other bunkers on the course, regardless of whether they contain water, maintain their status as hazards and the Rules apply accordingly. Note 1: Certain matches / competitions may have a more specific rule relating to flooded bunkers which will override this local rule Note 2: Where there is doubt as to the status of a bunker and a competitor wishes to take relief they are strongly advised to play two balls following the procedure in Rule 3-3a and cover both options. Two choices from, playing the ball, Rule 25-1b(i) and Rule 25-1b(ii). Abnormal Ground Conditions / Ground Under Repair Newly Turfed Areas Play is prohibited from any newly turfed areas marked as GUR. If a player’s ball lies in the area, or if it interferes with the player’s stance or the area of his intended swing, the player MUST take relief under Rule 25-1. Newly turfed areas on any putting green are GUR play prohibited Seams of cut turf RHS Through the green seams of cut turf (not the turf itself) are deemed to be ground under repair. However, interference by a seam with the player’s stance is deemed not to be, of itself, interference under Rule 25-1. If the ball lies in or touches the seam or the seam interferes with the area of intended swing, relief is available under Rule 25-1. All seams within the turf area are considered the same seam Drainage Channels 3rd, 11th & 12th holes Through the green the drainage channels not covered with turf are deemed to be ground under repair. Relief is available under Rule 25-1 for interference if the ball touches the channel or channel interferes with the player’s intended swing or stance. Nests / Immovable Obstructions / Dangerous Situations (Rule 1-4 / 20-7) The bird boxes installed around the course are immovable obstructions. The box installed on the edge of the 15th lateral water hazard is a nest. The bee hive located behind the 7th green is a dangerous situation.
