I have attached a few examples of the rhymes and songs we will be learning about! Topic Overview A broad overview of the topic linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage, these may be changed or adapted to suit the needs and individual interests of the children in our class. By the end of this topic the children will have found out about: Nursery rhymes and number songs Changing weather Helping hands and friendship Recognising emotions Their personal targets set in annual review meetings Key events: Chinese new year, Easter, Valentines day, Mothers day, Internet safety day, pancake day Book week: Julia Donaldson Theme How you can help! We value the knowledge and understanding you have of your child and would really appreciate it if you would share this with us, so that together we can plan activities to meet your child’s needs. This will help us plan for their future learning and development. Is there anything happening in your child’s life, e.g. visits, holidays, new pets, family celebrations? Is there anything you would like to tell us about your child? Is there a particular skill or piece of knowledge they have learnt/ shown recently? We would love to capture these moments in your child’s learning journal so please share with us through the home school diary! Learning through play is an important part of the school day. Below are some examples of how the things we are learning this term can be shared at home, if you have any other ideas you would like to share with us, or other parents, please let us know through the home school diary (don’t forget that you can send in your ‘wow’ moments in to include in your child’s learning jourey) Communication and Language Literacy Sharing a book – interactive sound books, pop up or lift the flap books, finding things in the pictures, repetitive rhymes and stories finding letters/numbers and signs to read –symbols around the house,road Personal, Social and Emotional Development Talk about people who can help us in the community Road safety songs Talk about feelings – we are using the film ‘inside out’ to learn about feelings. Understanding of the World Talk about the weather Tablet games – if you’re child enjoys playing on the tablet, there are lots of apps with nursery rhymes and interactive songs on Expressive Arts and Design Making playdoh – see attached Making sensory bottles – see attached Messy play – cornflour, paint, bubble wrap Listening to music Playing instruments Mathematics Water play – bath times with water toys, filling and pouring containers number songs and rhymes – see sheet attached for some ideas Inset puzzles and shape sorting toys Money – counting out money in the shop together
