Getting Started:
We love when our students come to class with a smile and a great attitude! Other than that, your student
will need:

Bathing suit

Towel
 Goggles preferably goggles that only cover the eyes, best for practicing bobs!
•
Life jacket/ Water wings (*Optional* Your instructor will inform you on which day they will need a life
jacket for water safety day. We do have life jackets students may borrow.)
First Day Expectations
Please make sure that all children come dressed and ready to get in the water at least 5 minutes before their
class start time. Please find a comfortable place to sit on the pool deck and wait to be called for swim lessons.
At the class start time, you and/or your child will be called to come to the side of the pool for lessons. Your
instructor will call out names and direct participants to where the class will meet daily. The instructors will
evaluate the participants swimming ability during the first lesson. If the participant needs to switch levels, the
instructor will notify the Head Guard and they will work with the parents to change to the appropriate class
for the student on the first day.
During Swim Lessons
While parents are encouraged to watch the swim lessons, we ask all parents to stay seated in the seating
areas a distance from the pool. You may sit in prepositioned lounge chairs or under the overhang. Keeping a
distance from the class area removes additional distractions to the participants, as well as the instructors.
However, we DO highly encourage parents to get to know their instructor. If you have any specific questions
or concerns about your child’s abilities, your instructor will be glad to talk with you. Please keep this brief
though, as they do have classes before and after your scheduled time. We will begin every lesson at the same
time everyday class is held. We take pride in starting every class right on the dot!
Discipline
The swim lesson instructors and lifeguards will enforce structured discipline for the students during their time
at the pool.
We use the “3 Strike: You’re Out” method.
 1 Verbal warning, explanation, & correction
 2 Sit out for 3 Minutes
 3 Excused from class for the rest of the day
Not only is this method enforced for the safety of all participants, but it is also implemented to maximize
learning time and reduce distractions during class. If your child has special needs, or you know this method
will not benefit them, please let us know at the time of registration so we can adjust accordingly. We do highly
encourage parents to explain the rules to their children prior to coming to the pool. If you feel it is necessary
to discipline your child during swim lessons, please remove your child from the lesson first as to avoid as much
distraction as possible. Please visit our website for a full list of the pool rules to go over with your children
prior to their swim lessons.

Inclement Weather
The lifeguards will close the pool under the following conditions:
 Base Weather calls “Lightning within 5”
 Lightning is sighted by lifeguard
 Rain is heavy enough that it limits the visibility of the bottom of the pool.
 Any other situation the lifeguard deems unsafe
The first time the participants are instructed to leave the pool for weather there will be a safety day in the
place of a lesson. This part of the curriculum is an educational movie we play inside of our safe & dry facility.
The instructors will communicate with the parents/ Head Guard to inform them of what the plan is. Parents
are more than welcome to join in and participate in safety day as well.
Cancelation/ Make-up Classes
If the participants are instructed to leave the pool for weather a 2nd (or 3rd, 4th) time we will be forced to cancel
class. You may call or come in to check if your class has been cancelled for that day. We may use Saturday’s as
make-up days. These times will be specified in advance and we will make sure everyone knows when their
make-up day/time is. We are not obligated to schedule a make-up class missed for personal reasons.
However, let us know if you will be absent in advance, if possible, and we will do the best we can to work with
you!
Choosing a level for your student
Please review the following page and decide what level would be best for your child. Don’t worry too much
about finding the perfect level since our swim instructors are trained to cater to each individual’s needs and
goals. If for any reason we need to switch your student to a different level, please communicate with your
instructor and the Head Guard will take care of scheduling a new level and/ or class start time. Please make
your level choice and mark which level you are registering your child for prior to registration.
