U11 Division 1 CONISTON vs. PORT KEMBLA Saturday 5th May 2012 The boys have been working very hard at training, and it was very pleasing to see the hard work beginning to pay off, as the boys from Cono defeated Port Kembla 4-0. The game began very evenly, with both teams working hard to control the midfield, and both defenses doing their jobs to keep the shots on goal to a minimum. Go, Filip and Thomas C began to improve as the game went on, winning more and more of the ball and feeding it to Neo, Thomas I and Bobby up front. Eventually, the pressure paid off as Surafel latched onto a great through ball, took his time by turning the defender a few times, and shot a great curler into the top left corner to score. At half time Cono up 1-0. After some words of encouragement at half time, and the important oranges, the team was on fire in the second half. Our midfield was winning more and more of the ball, while the strikers were passing, rather than hogging, the ball, opening up some serious space in the Port Kembla defence. Soon after Surafel scored his second goal, followed by goals from Bobby and Filip. A special mention to the awesome defence of Adam, Ficho, Lochlan, Filip and Luca. You guys were awesome today and deserved your clean sheet. We will need to remain smart at the back all season to ensure we win the close games! Special congratulations to Alexander (our keeper) who saved every shot and recorded his first clean sheet of the season, and also to Neo who began some great attacking raids by looking to pass before going himself. Thomas C was also very solid in the midfield, showing a great first touch and some visionary through balls. Thanks to Surafel, Jett, Ficho and Aleks for stepping up from U10’s in the absence of our regular players. I was very proud of your achievements today in recording your first win of the season, and if we all train every day and believe in ourselves, we might be lucky enough to make the finals come August.
