We’ll definitely do it again next year.” SUE DARKE, SIR WILLIAM RAMSEY SCHOOL HOW IT WORKS Who can take part? Anyone aged 4-18 can take part, regardless of their ability. Primary, secondary and special schools, colleges, youth groups and disabled groups are all welcome – it’s for anyone who likes to dance. Who will I be competing against? There are two age groups: a junior group for ages 4-11 and a senior group for ages 12-18. When and where? Events take place between March and July. Dates and venues can be found at redcross.org.uk/dance. Spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. PA R I N G . . . How do I enter? Fill out the registration form online at redcross.org.uk/dance for a ten per cent discount on the registration fee. Alternatively, return the form by post, with your nonrefundable £20 registration fee, to your local Dance: Make Your Move co-ordinator. Cheques should be made payable to British Red Cross. What about the dance? All groups create a dance routine between three and eight minutes long based on the Red Cross’ work – that could be anything from first aid to child soldiers to the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. What about the fundraising? We ask all groups to raise at least £50 for the Red Cross, which will help save and change lives in the UK and overseas. There are awards for all fundraising achievements over £100. Will you help me? You will have a dedicated Dance: Make Your Move co-ordinator who will be happy to help with fundraising ideas and creating your dance. Rehearsals take place in the afternoon and the performance itself follows in the early evening. Family and friends can buy tickets in advance. Are there awards? A panel of judges selects a junior and senior winner who go on to the area final. The junior and senior winners from each area final go on to compete at the UK national final at the IndigO2 at the O2 in London. Responsible adults must be checked by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB). Further information may be found on the Criminal Records Bureau website at crb.gov.uk Fundraising events held as a public performance may require a licence or permit from the local authority. Where music for a performance is copied and played in public, for example in the street, a licence to use it is usually required. Further details may be found on the Performing Right Society website at prs.co.uk Before the event, you will be asked to submit a list of chaperones helping you backstage and sign to confirm they are CRB checked. It is the responsibility of the teacher, not the British Red Cross, to ensure that all chaperones at Dance: Make Your Move are CRB checked. Please note that chaperones will be backstage during the performance and will not be able to watch. If you need any further advice, please contact your local Dance: Make Your Move co-ordinator. To safeguard costs incurred by the British Red Cross, any group that wishes to withdraw its entry within six weeks of the performance will still be required to pay the £50 fundraising target. These photographs will be available to the public. The British Red Cross will also use these photographs and video footage to publicise our work. It is not the responsibility of the British Red Cross to seek consent for use of this material from any parent/guardian whose child is participating in Dance: Make Your Move or a fundraising event associated with Dance: Make Your Move.
