“Fantastic and thoughtprovoking experience.
We’ll definitely do it
again next year.”
SUE DARKE, SIR WILLIAM RAMSEY SCHOOL
HOW IT WORKS
Who can take part?
Anyone aged 4-18 can take part, regardless
of their ability. Primary, secondary and
special schools, colleges, youth groups
and disabled groups are all welcome –
it’s for anyone who likes to dance.
Who will I be competing against?
There are two age groups: a junior group
for ages 4-11 and a senior group for
ages 12-18.
When and where?
Events take place between March and
July. Dates and venues can be found at
redcross.org.uk/dance. Spaces are
allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
PA R I N G . . .
How do I enter?
Fill out the registration form online
at redcross.org.uk/dance for
a ten per cent discount on the
registration fee. Alternatively, return
the form by post, with your nonrefundable £20 registration fee, to
your local Dance: Make Your Move
co-ordinator. Cheques should be
made payable to British Red Cross.
What about the dance?
All groups create a dance routine
between three and eight minutes
long based on the Red Cross’ work
– that could be anything from first
aid to child soldiers to the 2011
earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
What about the fundraising?
We ask all groups to raise at
least £50 for the Red Cross,
which will help save and change
lives in the UK and overseas.
There are awards for all fundraising
achievements over £100.
Will you help me?
You will have a dedicated
Dance: Make Your Move
co-ordinator who will be
happy to help with fundraising
ideas and creating your dance.
Your teacher’s pack and
redcross.org.uk/dance are
also full of resources, ideas
and advice.

What happens at the event?
Rehearsals take place in the
afternoon and the performance
itself follows in the early evening.
Family and friends can buy
tickets in advance.
Are there awards?
A panel of judges selects a junior and
senior winner who go on to the area
final. The junior and senior winners from
each area final go on to compete at
the UK national final at the IndigO2 at
the O2 in London. Every group gets a
commendation award for the best
part of their dance.

“It’s a really great opportunity
to get students involved in giving
back to the community. I’ve been
really proud of how much money
we’ve been able to raise this year.”
REBECCA SMEDLEY, COURSE LEADER, AMERSHAM AND WYCOMBE COLLEGE
We would like to thank the Royal
Academy of Dance for donating the
winning prizes for the national final.
