Dear Parents
So, as we hit the middle of June, the summer finally arrives and term 6 begins! We started the term as
Wally entering a world of imagination. This has been followed by meeting Mr Number Bond, our younger
children joining in the circus and the use of hose pipes to cool us down!
It’s great to see so many hats and shining faces from lashings of sun lotion. We have made sure there
has been access to as much drinking water as can be drunk and limited time outside so that the sun
doesn’t make us poorly!
Charity events
With your support we have some great news to share. Three year 6 girls wanted to do something for
charity before they leave us. Molly was keen to raise money for the Oliver Fisher Trust where she was
once a patient. She has raised £310. Holly and Kacelin proudly raised £400 for the Stroke Association
in memory of Holly’s nan. Well done girls! These are two great causes.
Well done
Charlie (3D) has recently swam 100m unaided (4 times further than he has ever swam before unaided).
He did this to raise money for Chelsea Childrens’ Hospital to help other children who require similar
treatments to him. Including gift aid Charlie has raised £505. What an achievement Charlie – a huge
well done from us all!
A message from Mr Smith
Swingate Primary School continue to show fantastic attitudes and results in Sport!
In term 5 we entered our year five team in a year 5 and 6 Girls Football and Cricket tournament at the
Howard School. We were placed 3rd in the cricket and 9th in the football.
We also entered the Mini Youth Games Cricket and were placed 7th out of 44 schools and qualified for
the Night of Champions next month.
Our school football team finished 7th in the Premier league after some great matches played winning 2
and losing 5.
As well as this we look forward to our Night of Champions Rugby and Basketball this week where we
were placed 5th and 3rd retrospectively.
We competed in the Mini Youth Games Football tournament at Gillingham Anchorians and played a total
of eight games winning 3 and losing 5 placing us 31st out of 54 schools.
But the success does not stop there our year 3 and 4 team placed 1st in the indoor Athletics. Well done
to all Swingate Sporting Heroes (and parents for their support)
Sharing learning with you
We love sharing learning with you. We do this in Family Fridays and by putting work around our school
grounds. It’s always special to see parents and grandparents stop and read our children’s work.
Sadly, no one can help but hear and see in the media the awful events of the past 3 months and with the
terrorist attacks in London and Manchester and more recently the fire in the tower block in London.
Our children have been talking about these events showing empathy and concern. Teachers have
responded by talking honestly with the children although the reasons for these attacks are hard to
explain.
We have created a space in the school grounds where we are able to show our support for the victims
and their families and also show that these mindless people will not stop us living our happy lives. You are
welcome to show your support there too.
As part of the ‘garden’ the classes have written butterflies.
We think the extremists shouldn’t do it-they have their own minds-they don’t need to copy anyone else.
Remember it is innocent people who lose their lives in these terrible attacks.
Some people were brave to help the injured, like the taxi drivers offering free rides home and the first response
teams for helping save people’s lives in dangerous situations.
Good will always overpower evil; bad will never win. 5H
We feel very sad about the attacks that have happened in our country. We want
you to know that we are thinking about you and sending you hugs and kisses to
make you better soon. There are more good people than bad people in the world. We
are making the right choices and showing our love to everyone to make this world a
better place. Giraffe class
We hope you get better soon. We could hug you. Our policemen are great. We love you. We
hope you will be happy. Ladybird class
We are sorry for your loss.
You are in the clouds away from bad people.
We think about your families
We send you lots of love. Elephant class
Our nursery children at 3 years old say…. Give them a cuddle, thank you for helping people, be
kind and don’t hurt people, doctors and the police help.
Year 6
Year 6 children have also been thinking about being unique and how it’s Ok to be ‘me.’
You must be different to make a difference
It’s OK to stand out
I’m not the same as you, you’re not the same as me
But I’m the only person I want to be
I must be myself
As I can’t be anyone else and I’m fine with that.
By Jude
UNIQUE by Jessica
It’s OK to be unique
We don’t have to look the same, like the same things or have the same tastes.
You don’t have to be like your friends
All you can be is you. It’s OK to be unique
To be unique is to just be you
To live and laugh how you want to
To love anyone
To cry about anything
It’s OK to be unique
No matter if I am small, big or tall
Nor beautiful on the outside
I’m beautiful on the inside
It makes me UNIQUE.

And finally…….
Our annual sports day will be held on Friday 14th July. As part of this we have a number of activities for
you to join in with to raise money for our school and our children. We usually use this money to upgrade
reading books and playground equipment. A parent has kindly volunteered to help Mrs Babraa
(Tina) organise events this year. I’m sure they would welcome any further support from parents to run
stalls on the day. We are also having our table top sale where you pay £5 for a table and everything you
sell is yours to keep. Let Tina know if you want a table reserved or if you can offer any help.
