Year End Celebrations
As the school year comes to a close, I would
like to say thank you to the school
community for your support, prayers and
encouragement. It has been an amazing
year!
There are many great activities being
planned for the year end. The June calendar
is full of fun activities and celebrations. The
Grade 6 Year End Mass (for Grade 6
students and families) will be held on
Friday, June 23 at St. Agnes Church at 9:30
followed by a luncheon at the Knights of
Columbus. We will still be hosting a Year
End Prayer service for all of our JK - Grade 6
students on June 27 at 9:30 at St. Agnes
Church. We have our annual Jump Rope for
Heart day as well as the ever popular Talent
Show. Many of the classes will be going on
excursions. Please check the calendar for all
of the great activities that will be happening
during the month of June.
Family Picnic 2017
We are very excited to be hosting our
annual Family Picnic on Tuesday, June 27,
from 12:00 - 1:00. It has been decided that
this year, it will be BYOF - bring your own
food. There will still be great activities for
the students and some treats but there will
be no food for purchase. This will allow
families to spend quality time with their
children and celebrate all of the successes of
the school year in a special way. Watch for a
letter to come home soon with more
information.
Mark the date in your
calendars. Hope to see you there! The
weather will be gorgeous.
Catholic Virtues In Action:
June’s Virtue is Charity
During the month of June, we celebrate the virtue
of charity.
People often think of charity as
donating to a worthy cause but the Bible teaches us
that charity is more than that. Here are a few
verses from the Bible that talk about charity:
“Charity bears all things, believes all things, hopes
all things, endures all things.” 1 Corinthians 13:7
“If I have not charity, I am nothing.” 1Corinthians
13:2 “This is my commandment, that you love one
another as I have loved you.” John 15:12 “So faith,
hope and charity abide, these three. But the
greatest of these is charity.” 1 Corinthians 13:13 As
you can read, charity is not just about giving.
Charity is a special love that believers should have
for others. It comes from the heart. Jesus teaches
us to love one another and to care for our brothers
and sisters in need. We practise charity when we:
include others, respect all of God’s people, bring
peace, are helpful to a person in need, share with
others, play fairly, work for justice for all people,
take time to show we care, forgive others when
they make mistakes and reach out in the larger
community to share our resources and skills. Let
us pray for the courage and compassion to bring
charity to those who need our support.
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!
Heavenly Father,
Bless all the fathers in the world. Father, we ask that
you guide them to be good role models and loving to
their children. We also ask that you help them to be a
father like YOU are. Give them grace and patience to
handle all situations in a loving way. AMEN

Popcorn Fundraiser
For Children’s Pediatric Unit
Mrs. DeRocco and Mrs. Bergamo’s Grade 2
classes held a popcorn fundraiser in support of
the Children’s Pediatric Unit at TBRHSC. They
raised $700!!! Thank you to everyone for their
support. A member of the pediatric unit came to
explain what that money meant to the children
who need to stay at the hospital and can’t be be
home with their parents. The classes received a
thank you letter from the president and CEO of
the TBHRSF explaining that thanks to the $700
donation, the hospital is able to provide care
closer to home for thousands of younger patients
each year. This truly would not have been
possible without the generosity of the St. Martin
community and the Lenten Popcorn Fundraiser.
Below is a picture of the hospital representative,
Mandi Merkley receiving the cheque from
Keegan Hablel.

Blue Spruce Celebration
After taking part in the Blue Spruce AwardTM Reading
Program with our teacher-librarian, the Grade 3
classes participated in a celebration to honour the 10
Canadian picture books they recently read and voted
on. Students rotated through various centres based on
the books.
They had the opportunity to use
technology, craft, write, draw, and test their math and
science knowledge! The Blue Spruce is a provincial
primary reading program for K-3 sponsored by the
Ontario Library Association.
Students read 10
recently published, nominated Canadian picture
books, and then vote for their favourite book. Based
on student voting across the province, the best picture
book is then selected and the author/illustrator is
honoured with the Blue Spruce AwardTM.
The goals of the Blue Spruce AwardTM program are:
*to promote reading for enjoyment
and information among primary
students;
*to make students aware of quality
Canadian picture books including
Canadian authors and illustrators;
*to develop the student’s skill in
evaluating a picture book based on
story, text and pictures;
Kiss N’ Ride Information
Very soon, we will be sending home information
regarding some proposed changes to Kiss N
Ride procedures that will help keep our kids
safer and get home sooner. Please watch for the

Earth Day Gallery Walk
On April 20th, 2017 we celebrated our second
annual Earth Day Gallery Walk. We had many
classes submit art, writing and multi-media
projects
that
focus
on
environmental
sustainability. The Saint Martin Mustangs
enjoyed observing and reading all of the Earth
Day projects from JK all the way to Grade 6. In
addition, we learned how we can take
responsibility for protecting our Earth and
what we can do as Saint Martin students to take
care of the environment.
