Susan Stember Buhlmann Joins Brattleboro Retreat’s
Outreach Office
BRATTLEBORO, VT—The Brattleboro Retreat is pleased to announce the appointment of
Susan Stember Buhlmann, LICSW, to the position of Outreach Coordinator in the hospital’s
Department of Outreach & Education.
In her new position Susan will be in charge of cultivating referral sources, attending professional
conferences and trade shows, and supporting the Retreat’s community outreach efforts in and
around Brattleboro and Windham County.
For the past two-and-a-half years Susan has worked as a clinical social worker in the Retreat’s
Birches Program, which provides partial hospitalization services for people seeking to recover
from mental illness and/or addiction challenges. Prior to that she was the Program Coordinator
and Supervisor for the Children’s Mobile Response program in the Behavioral Health division of
the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
A native of New Jersey, her ties to southern Vermont go back more than 30 years when she
worked at the Brattleboro Retreat from 1980 to 1985 as a social worker in her first job following
graduate school.
“Susan’s outgoing nature combined with her considerable clinical skills will serve her well in the
role of Outreach Coordinator,” said Konstantin Von Krusenstiern, vice president of Strategy and
Development. “We’re excited to have her join our team.”
Susan also sits on the advisory board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Windham County. She
returned to live in Brattleboro in 2009 with her husband Willy. She has two grown children, one
who resides in Australia and the other in Brooklyn, NY.
