Course title: Ordinary Differential
Equations 1 (0301203)
Instructor: Dr.Qasem Qadumi
Lecture’s time:9:30 – 11:00
Semester: first 2015
Office Hours: 11:00 – 12:00
Course description:
This course is devoted to study the classification of ordinary differential equation and how to
solve it by using many methods.
Aims of the course:
This course is intended to move students forward with ordinary differential equation.
Intended Learning Outcomes: (ILOs)
A.
Knowledge and Understanding
A1. Concepts and Theories:
1. Knowledge of basic classification of differential equation .
2. Knowledge of how to solve the differential equation by using several methods as
integrating factor, Transformation and substitution method, non-homogeneous
differential equation method undetermined coefficient and Variation method.
A2. Contemporary Trends, Problems and Research:
Serve to understanding topics in mathematics
A3. Professional Responsibility:
Treat all students with understanding, dignity and respect, to guide classroom discussion and to set
reasonable limits on the manner in which they and their students express opinions.
B.
Subject-specific skills
B1. Problem solving skills:
Present the concepts in the simplest, most transparent way, to ensure students become fluent
and confident in their problem-solving skills and encourage students to express their ideas
and to ask questions .
B2. Modeling and Design:
Start by general idea and the benefit of it. Demonstrate the course information and principles
through lectures and solve many examples.
B3. Application of Methods and Tools:.
The use of calculators and/or computers will be demonstrated and encouraged by the instructor
where appropriate. Technology will be used when graphing curves, evaluating derivatives, and
evaluating definite integrals.

C.
Critical-Thinking Skills
C1. Analytic skills: Assess
Design exams that test the basics, but also contain harder material. Encourage students to
dissect exactly what went wrong in quizzes and exams .
C2. Strategic Thinking:
Start each chapter by general idea and the benefit of it. Demonstrate the course information
and principles through lectures.
Answering questions is another important part of the classroom dialogue. Math is not about
right or wrong, but why and how.
C3. Creative thinking and innovation:
Encouraging students to think, enlightening students about how to think, and
offering students concrete examples that they can play with.
The effective learning of Mathematics in the classroom is best achieved when students
are actively engaged in the process of teaching.
D.
General and Transferable Skills (other skills relevant to employability and personal development)
D1. Communication:
Prepare questions to guide the students to search for the truth on their own, and to make them
explore by themselves .
D2. Teamwork and Leadership:
Demonstrate an ability to work and communicate with colleagues, on the topics in at least two of
the following:
- A team project with a written report and/or in-class presentation
- Participation in discussions
- In-class group activities
