Curriculum Night and
Expectations
Expectations
• Shoe Laces- Please make sure that if your student has shoe laces they can tie
them on their own.
• Students need to be able to read and or work independently for at least 20
minutes on their own.
• Responsible for their own material
• Be able to write first and last name on their own
• Know where they go after school and if they buy lunch or not.
ELA Curriculum Night
• We ask that you read every night with your child. If they are reading fluently, they can read on their
own and just ask some comprehension questions. For choppy readers have them read out loud.
• Suggestion a reading journal to practice writing at least weekly, questions can be found on the website.
• Suggestion Practice spelling words (spell words, write words in a sentence, find nouns ,verbs, adjectives,
adverbs, and pronouns; read words)
• We will follow a phonics program for spelling we will have dictation test. Writing we will be working towards
writing a paragraph by early September on their own (we will be learning pre-writing, first draft, editing, and
final draft. – craft plus is curriculum
• Kamico Writing daily grade every other week. Handwriting grade with dictation test- daily grade) and
Dictation test (test grade).
• Reading-We will be working towards reading at a second grade level. If they are already there then we will
want them to grow a grade level. We will be using AR for comprehension assessment. This will not be a grade
and will start second quarter. (We will also be using DRA to track sight words, comprehension, and fluency.)
• Kamico Reading will have a daily grade every other week.
• Summarize Grades for ELA: Kamico Reading and Writing (daily one every other week); Dictation (test)or
Phonics (test)- weekly; handwriting (daily weekly when we have a dictation test)
• Specials rotation will include library- Students will check out books and are responsible for them (you will be
held financially responsible if they lose the book so if you prefer just tell your child not to bring them home.
However, please be aware if they misplace the book even if kept at school then you still will need to pay for it
in order for them to continue to check books out. )
Math
• For math we will be following the GO math and Everyday math curriculum and
the uplift scope and sequence
• St Math is REQUIRED HOMEWORK 60 Minutes a week. IF they finish early they
have the challenge section for them to work on.

• Test we will have at least three in a nine week period
Humanities
• The curriculum follows the Uplift scope and sequence and the PYP planner.
• Humanities is very PYP heavy in the first semester.
• If your child is doing any action at home that goes with our planner please email
your teacher. For example we have a unit that talks about our personal history
and if your child starts to ask questions about family and your personal history
and seems really interested let us know so we can shout them out in class as
being an inquirer and put it in our planner as student action.
• We will have three test every nine weeks.

Science

• PYP Heavy second semester
• Weekly Daily grade
• Three test every nine Weeks
• We will be learning Scientific process with hands on experiments/ activities
Other
• Best way to contact us is email please do not leave us a message on our phone we
might not get it. If you are having computer issues please send written notes. Make
sure your child knows they have a note to give to us.
• Behavior system for school includes a color system yellow, green, blue, orange, red
(3 oranges in a week or 1 red = Friday detention)
• We will be needing volunteers for field trips and parties in the classroom. If you are
interested helping out the room parent please let us know.
• If you would like to volunteer as a mystery reader please reach out to your teacher
and she will help you schedule a time that would be good.
