MASTERS: Finance
Eligibility:
All applicants for the Coursework Masters programme are assessed by the School’s Postgraduate Committee. Applicants
are expected to have achieved an average of at least 65% for Honours in Finance. (Foreign applicants should note that they
must have their prior degrees assessed by the South African Qualifications Authority before making application to the
School. An application form for such assessment is available from SAQA’s website: www.saqa.co.za.
Structure of Programme:
The Coursework Masters programme is structured as a one-year full-time programme or a two-year part-time programme.
The Coursework Masters in Finance programme comprises a dissertation (40,000 words maximum) together with a total of
4 courses, namely 2 compulsory and 2 electives as shown below. The Coursework Masters in Finance includes an additional
compulsory course in research methods which will aid candidates in completing the dissertation.

Note:
Please note that the electives on offer in any one year may vary according to the availability of staff.
Due Date for Research Report:
The Research Report is expected to be completed alongside the coursework. The research proposal for the Research Report
must be presented for approval to a meeting of the School’s Postgraduate Committee and academic staff early in the second
semester. Therefore, work on the research proposal should commence in the first semester and be completed during the July
vacation. The completed Research Report (40,000 words maximum) must be submitted at least four months before the end
of the period of registration in order to allow sufficient time for internal and external examination.
