Goalmouth for Schools Botswana: 2012 Described below is an initial proposal for the staging of a schools’ performance of Goalmouth! involving five Gaborone-based secondary state schools in early 2012. It assumes prior knowledge of what the piece is about. In this reduced version of the piece all 5 schools come together to form both Goalmouth’s massed football crowd-choir and perform the piece together in a central Gaborone venue complete with 5 professional musicians and their own selected student dancers. They will also be provided with a vocal script for their drama departments to weave in further acting elements. Teachers will be given music learning devices to help their students learn the music. Process Initial Stage 1) Heath Lambert and Andrew Kola of Mophato will come to the schools individually 3 months before the performance together with the BSA in order to explain the project. They will also be responsible for devising a new choreography for the piece appropriate to school-level dancers in the schools that will be dancing (as opposed to acting). 2) They will then start making individual weekly visits to 2 of the schools (3 each) to train students in 3-hour afternoon dance choreography sessions. 3) A local drama teacher (to be identified) will similarly go regularly to work with the acting students (schools marked with a * below). 1 School number 1 2 3 4 5 Dancing/Acting roles Lions team (11 dancers) All-stars team (11 dancers) Linesmen and referee (5 dancers) Commentators (5 actors) * Journalists (5 actors)* 4) Andy Batshogile (local choir trainer) will also come to the schools during this period and teach the Goalmouth! songs, explain the piece and leave the learning devices for distribution (these MP3 files contain individual learning parts for all the songs).
