PART TWO – YOUR QUESTIONS
Please write your questions about prevention, identification, or treatment of HEALTH CARE ASSOCIATED
INFECTIONS where you would like to see further research, or where you feel that there may be uncertainty
about what's the best medical and nursing care. Your questions can be in any order of importance.
To help you, here are some examples of research questions for other health conditions:
"In the general population, do exercises prevent obesity?"
"In people with cough, is CT scan better than X-ray in diagnosing lung cancer?"
"In people with asthma are breathing exercises helpful in reducing symptoms?"
"In people with sore throat, is gargling aspirin effective in relieving the sore throat?"
"In people with angina, is exercise effective in terms of preventing heart attacks?"
It is also important to know how you will consider a particular preventive measure, investigation, or treatment
is useful. For example, you may consider the measure to be useful if increases survival, improves quality of life,
prevents or cures a particular infection, and decreases the length of hospital stay. If you identify more than
one measure by which you will consider a test or treatment to be useful, please list them in order of
importance with the first being the most important.
QUESTION 12 Please complete your answer in the boxes on the next two pages.

PART THREE – GET INVOLVED
This completes the survey. Thank you for taking part. The survey is only one way in which you can become
involved in the research. We also intend to talk directly to patients, carers, and health professionals, for
example by holding focus groups, interviewing a number of patients and carers, and a further questionnaire to
help decide the top ten most important questions. Please let us know if you would be interested in being
further involved. Please send an email to Prof Peter Wilson ([email protected]) with the subject of the
email: 'Patient and public representative in research'. We may contact you again and there is no obligation to
take part.
