Blue Ribbons
Lesson 3) From the Colour Blue
The colour blue in the Bible is associated with the things that are closest to GOD; therefore these are the most
holy things. So let me explain with references made in the WORD of GOD. The book that contains the most
references to the colour blue (34) is Exodus. This is the book where GOD began to instruct HIS people and lay
out the specific commandments for HIS people to be a Holy (set apart) people from all other nations.

An offering presented unto the LORD in Exodus 25:4(KJV)

In making the Tabernacle for the presence of GOD in Exodus 26:1+4, 31-36(KJV)

For the court of the Tabernacle in Exodus 27:16(KJV)

For the Holy garments to be worn by the priests while in service within the Tabernacle(also the Ephod,
the breastplate of judgement in Exodus 28(KJV)

Then in Exodus 35, Moses begins to relay the same message to GOD’S people and the people carry out
the instruction (Exodus 36-39 KJV)

Then in the Book of Numbers, while the articles of the tabernacle were being carried, they were to be
covered by cloths of blue. (Numbers 4: 6,7,9,11,12 KJV)

The instruction for the ribbon of blue for the remembrance and obedience to GOD’S commandments
in Numbers 15:38(KJV)
These scriptures provide insight into GOD’S use of the colour blue and how it set apart certain things from
others. Therefore my teaching will now venture from the colour blue to the specific areas that we are to be set
apart in if we are to be GOD’S holy people.
Holiness is our relationship with GOD! (X3) Holiness is the total perspective of the Christian life. Holiness is
our whole attitude, our whole speech and the whole way we choose to live. Holiness is complete; not in part!
Therefore…

We must pay close attention to holiness.

We must always strive for holiness

We must look for ways to demonstrate holiness before GOD and other people.
As the Church, we must pursue a lifestyle holiness and it begins in our thoughts.
1 Peter 1:13-16(KJV)
Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought
unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the
former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of
conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
So the pursuit is this; to gird (restrain) the loins (central part) of our minds so that we can be holy in all manner
of conversation (conduct).
This can at times seem like a monumental task, this can at times seem to be too overwhelming and even an
unrealistic goal but it is achievable. If our approach is right, if our attitude is right and if our thoughts are right
we can live according to the WORD of GOD in every area of life.
All manner of conversation (or conduct) begins with thinking right or thinking towards holiness. The mind is
the key to the Christian life! The way we think determines the way we act. If we think low-level thoughts, we
live on a low-level and with low-level actions. If we think negatively, we act in a negative manner and if we
think unholy thoughts we act in an unholy manner. At the same time if our thoughts are holy, we will pursue
holiness!
Therefore we must do our very best to get (and to keep) our minds/ thoughts on the right track.
For the purpose of teaching on holiness with our mind and thoughts I will use 3 portions of scripture as our
points of reference. It is my intention to show the reason why our thoughts should be used to please GOD, to
honour GOD and to give GOD the praise and glory that only HE deserves.
1)
Romans 12:1-2(KJV)
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy,
acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect,
will of God.
The phrase, “transformed by the renewing of your mind” is not just switching gears, it’s not just stopping to
live by (worldly) immoral standards and then starting to live by a whole new set of moral standards; rather
this is the powerful and triumphant transformation (conversion or change) that begins with our thoughts
and in our mind.
Don’t let the ways of this world dictate how you think or what you choose to do with your life. Let your mind
be renewed (changed) from ungodly ways of thinking into holy ways of thinking. Allow the WORD of GOD to
replace the old, tiresome and worldly thoughts with new, vibrant and holy thoughts. The WORD of GOD alone
can renew your mind; there is transforming power when you fill your thoughts with the WORD of GOD.
2)
2 Corinthians 10:4-5(KJV)
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and
bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Definitions of ‘imaginations’ include the following: To form a mental image, as of something not actually
present to the senses; to assume, suppose or guess; a conception or mental creation, sometimes a baseless or
fanciful one.
Any thought that does not line up with the WORD of GOD is an imagination and therefore must be cast
down. If we are going to be holy before GOD, we must continually be on guard against the pressures to exalt
our own thoughts and ideas instead of GOD’S thoughts and ways. In order to be set apart for our holy GOD we
must bring into captivity every thought that we have and ensure it lines up with GOD’S WORD.
3)
Philippians 4:8(KJV)
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be
any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
In the context of his writing here, Paul encourages us to rejoice in the LORD. Paul wants us to know that the
peace of GOD will keep (protect) our hearts and minds before indicating what our thoughts should be like.
The first reason why we should be striving to live a holy life is because it is pleasing to GOD! The first
consideration of holiness, is not what I want or what I think is best but what does GOD want and what does
GOD think is best. The first matter of living holy is not what I can get out of this lifestyle but how does GOD
want me to live. We must have our priorities right beginning with our thoughts.
We are instructed to focus our lives on things that please GOD. We are commanded to be holy; and holiness of
our thoughts and of our mind are critical before we get into the practical areas of life.
