An Air Rifle Challenge for Surrey Scouts The Challenge From today to 31/10/17, Troops should arrange a local 0.177” calibre air rifle shooting evening/day where Scouts shoot 5x pellets at 4 targets and the top 8 scores are submitted to the County Administrator. The County Administrator will collate the Troop team scores and will publish the results by 26th November. Certificates will be sent to all Troop teams who accept the challenge and a trophy will be awarded to the winning team. In addition, the top scoring 20 individual participants will be invited to an individual competition to be held on 2nd December 2017 at the NSRA Lord Roberts Centre Bisley GU24 0NP. Medals will be awarded to the top 20 individual participants and a trophy presented to the best individual. The trophies for best Team and best Individual must be returned to Surrey Scouts County Office before the following year’s presentation. The Rules This competition is open to all invested members of Scout Troops in Surrey although no Scouts should be over 14 ½ by 26th November. Troops wishing to enter a team should complete and return the application form to [email protected] with the £5 entry fee as soon as possible. All Scouts will shoot from the standing position and not touch the table/bench in front of them. All shooting will comply with POR Rule 9.37. It is the responsibility of the Scout Leaders to ensure that “Permission to Shoot” forms are completed before the event. Rifles used must be 0.177” (4.5mm) calibre and only standard open sights such as Ring Sights (Diopter) or Standard Notch and Post are allowed. No telescopic, red dot or laser type sights are allowed for this competition. Targets to be used are NSRA 6 yard Air 8 (as attached). These are available at cost from David Robinson (telephone 01483 474030) if necessary. Each member of the team will shoot 4 x cards with 5x shots at each, totalling 20 shots (max score 200). Visual inwards scoring will be used. If the shot catches or breaks the line, the higher score will be taken. Name, Age and Troop Name to be recorded on the targets before shooting commences. Team score cards should be retained until 26/11/17 for audit purposes. The Scout Leader or Range Officer should complete the Team Score Spreadsheet and send this to [email protected] as soon as practicable but before 31/10/17. And Finally…… This competition would qualify as an “officially supervised contest” so why not work towards the Master at Arms Badge? How to earn your badge What you need to do: 1. Attend regular training sessions in a relevant activity like fencing, shooting or archery. Show how you’ve improved in technique. You should train for at least six sessions. 2. Learn the safety rules associated with your activity and show how to follow them. 3. Take part in your chosen activity at an officially supervised contest. Afterwards, talk to the instructor about your performance and how you can improve.
