Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Trader Notice MH 21/2015 To: All Food Business Operators Subject: Agreement with the Sultanate of Oman on beef and sheepmeat exports Introduction This Trader Notice is being issued to Food Business Operators to confirm that agreement has been reached with the veterinary authorities in the Sultanate of Oman on the wording of veterinary health certificates to accompany the export of beef and sheepmeat, respectively, from Ireland to Oman. Sample copies of the certificates are included in this Trader Notice in the form of embedded documents. All DAFM-approved establishments for the species in question are eligible to handle beef or sheepmeat destined for Oman. Role of the FBO Any FBO intending to export beef or sheepmeat to Oman must draw up an SOP beforehand, to be approved by the responsible Veterinary Inspector of this Department, which demonstrates how they intend to comply with the requirements of the Omani authorities. Veterinary Health Certification The veterinary health certificates will be made available to Veterinary Inspectors at the eligible plants through the usual channels, on request. Copies of the agreed veterinary health certificates are included for your information. Oman Beef Certificate.pdf Oman Sheepmeat Certificate.pdf Additional Information It should be noted that a Halal certificate will also be required in connection with each consignment of beef or sheepmeat exported to Oman. Any FBO intending to export to Oman is advised to obtain a Halal certificate in respect of each consignment which will satisfy the importing authorities in Oman. An import permit must also be obtained from the importing authorities in Oman and the reference number must be entered on the veterinary health certificate. Full details of the conditions attaching to the export of meat and meat products from Ireland to the Sultanate of Oman are set out in Annex 1. Audrey Lyons Meat Hygiene Division 27th October 2015 1 Annex 1 CONDITIONS FOR THE IMPORTATION OF MEAT AND MEAT PRODUCTS FROM IRELAND TO THE SULTANATE OF OMAN - - - All consignments must be accompanied by the following Original Certificates: 1. Veterinary Health Certificate; 2. Certificate of Origin, Issued by the Competent Authorities of Exporting Countries; 3. Halal Certificate (meats and poultry and their products) issued by a Competent Islamic Centre. All above certificates must be attested by the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman or that of any G.C.C. country The importer should apply for a permit before arrival or departure of the consignment. The applicant for a permit should have the activity of importing animal products added in commercial registration. The Omani Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has the right to: 1. Impose any additional condition; 2. Determine port of entry for consignment; 3. Refuse or cancel the issued permit; And thus to prevent entry of infectious and contagious diseases as well as radiation, chemical etc. contamination. Furthermore, on arrival, - The consignment will be subjected to inspection and quarantine procedures on arrival by Veterinary Quarantine officers at the port of entry. - The Release Permit will only be issued after the veterinary authority is satisfied that the consignment is free from infectious and contagious diseases and fit for human consumption and that all necessary accompanied certificates and documents are in conformity with requirements. 2
