MANIFESTO WRITING
A manifesto sends out a message to voters about what makes you stand out as a
candidate. It should summarise your key ideas and what you would like to change
about the University and/or Union. At the top of your manifesto, you must list on
separate lines your three main objectives for the year ahead.
Your manifesto will appear on the website during voting week. Students will be able to
look at this, as well as other candidates, before making their final voting decision.
It is likely to be the last piece of information that voters will consider before casting
their vote online, so it has to be clear, interesting and state why people should vote for
you.
Don’t forget that the UPSU election uses the STV/ATV method for voting, (see the
Voting Process for more information) so you may want to consider asking voters to
vote for you as their number one preference.

Hi I’m Peter and I am running to be your Vice President. I have experience having
been President of the Stamp Collecting Society in which time I have increased
membership from 15 members to 55 members.

Monday 3rd March 2014 at 5pm in the Union Building.

The above manifesto is to give you a very brief idea of how you can write your
manifesto. You don’t have to use this template, but hopefully it will be a useful guide.
Speak to current students & sabbatical officers to get an idea of what to put in your
manifesto.
PLEASE NOTE: Only Microsoft Word documents can be accepted. 400 words maximum.
Text only - no formatting such as bullet points, italics, bold or images. Text must be left
aligned. File name must include candidate’s full name and position e.g. “John Smith President - Manifesto.doc”
