What is Evolve Politics?
Evolve Politics is a truly independent, shared equity media outlet, providing incisive news
reporting and journalism that highlights and exposes injustice, inequality and unfairness
within UK politics, and throughout society in general.
Who owns Evolve Politics?
Evolve Politics is the first project of a newly formed company called Evolve Media Ltd.
Evolve Media is owned and directed by Jessica Miller, and was formed based on the ideas
and inspiration of her disabled partner.
Jess is an English graduate with years of experience in online journalism, news reporting and
editing, having worked for various online media outlets such as Save The Student. Her first
passion is teaching, but due to this government’s introduction of £9k tuition fees, her hopes
of completing her PGCE were dashed.
Why does Evolve Politics exist?
Just a handful of individuals own the UK’s media, and the majority of political coverage is
projected with an increasingly obvious pro-Establishment narrative. Even formerly
progressive media outlets such as The Guardian now display anti-progressive stances on a
whole host of political issues.
Informed consent is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and the UK’s commentariat
should have one sole purpose: to hold the government of the day to account by providing
the public with an accurate account of current events. We believe our media is failing us.
The public is desperately in need of a new-media revolution. One that promotes freedom,
equality and fairness; a media that allows its writers to truly express their opinions without
censorship or an editorial narrative to maintain. EvolvePolitics intends to be the true voice
of the people – a media without corporate interests, financial backers of shareholders to
please.
EvolvePolitics will focus on breaking news, ideas, and key developments within politics, as
well as cases of injustice, unfairness and inequality from across the UK, and the rest of the
world.
How is EvolvePolitics different?
EvolvePolitics is run in a completely different way to the mainstream media, from our
unique pay-scheme that rewards all of our writers, right through to our core values and
ethics. EvolvePolitics will always be truly independent, meaning, unlike the mainstream
media, we will never have to change or censor a story because of corporate interests.
Around 20 freelance writers are contributing 3-5 articles each a week. All of our writers are
paid in two different ways.
Firstly, all writers get 50% of the advertising revenue profit as a proportion of the traffic
they generate. Meaning that for every article you produce, you will retain half of all the
advertising income generated based on how many visitors your pieces draw in.
On top of this revenue, all our writers receive a standard fee for their work, depending on
the amount the site receives in donations and subscriptions in that month.
The standard fee per article is calculated as an equal percentage of 75% of our monthly
subscription and donation income.
We believe that our writers should be rewarded fairly for their hard work, and our business
model encourages our writers to work together to build their reputations as well as enhance
ours. The bigger EvolvePolitics gets, the more rewarded our writers will become for their
work, and the more renowned our collective reputations will become.
[In April 2017 our standard fee per article was £17.98, and we were also able to pay an
average of £1 for every 1200 views an article received]
