Many of our TVYLL families have asked for clarification as to when a game
would be canceled due to weather. The following are some guidelines that may
help clarify those situations:
Should either condition, listed below, potentially threaten to cancel a scheduled
game, TVYLL will notify the teams affected by email, around 4:00 pm.
Games will be played unless one, or more, of the following conditions is
present:
Lightening - Beginning 30 minutes prior to game start (usually reserved as pregame warm-up)…
 If lightning is present, the game will be delayed, and held in limbo for a
mandatory 30 minutes.
 If there is not a second lightening strike within that 30-minute time frame,
the game may proceed as originally planned given a go ahead from
TVYLL.
 A weather delay game will not be canceled simply because 1 or both
teams do not want to wait out the delay.
 If there is not a Board Member available at the fields, the Field Manager
will confer with the game official(s), to make the call as to whether the
game will continue.
EXAMPLE:
 Teams take to the field at 5:00 p.m. for warm-up time.
 A lightening strike is visible at 5:15 p.m.
 Everyone MUST vacate the actual field area and the game is held in limbo
until 5:45 p.m.
 If a subsequent strike occurs, the 30-minute clock will restart until a period
of 30 minutes passes without a strike.
 If it appears that the storm is not subsiding by original game time, TVYLL
will make the decision as to whether the game will be called for weather.
 If no strike occurs in that time, warm ups* and game may continue as
planned, given decision from TVYLL.
* any remaining warm-up time to be mutually agreed upon by both teams so as not to delay game further,
but to provide ample time to prepare
Undesirable Field Conditions:
Excessively wet fields can be dangerous for our players to keep their footing, and
injuries can happen as a result. In return, having our players on the fields during
those wet conditions could cause damage to the turf, resulting in needed repairs
to the field and/or loss of usable time on those fields. It will be at the discretion of
TVYLL and Boise Parks and Recreation to determine if designated fields are too
wet to be used.
