2016 ICTP-EAUMP SUMMER SCHOOL ON
NUMBER THEORY
I. INTRODUCTION
The Eastern Africa Universities Mathematics Programme (EAUMP), courtesy of the
International Science Programme (ISP) of Sweden, and the International Centre for
Theoretical Physics (ICTP) are pleased to announce a Summer School on Number Theory.
The School will be held from 4th – 22th July 2016 at the East Africa Institute of Fundamental
Research, University of Rwanda, in Kigali, Rwanda.
II. GOALS OF THE SCHOOL





To enable participants to understand the basic ideas in number theory from
different perspectives;
To introduce current trends in number theory to graduate students and young
faculty, and discuss possible research topics for prospective masters and PhD
students;
To provide a forum for African mathematicians to interact and exchange ideas and
initiate collaborations.

PARTICIPATION
Summer School Lecturers
The School will be aimed at advanced graduate students (M.Sc. and PhD) and young
academic staff members from Eastern Africa and beyond. Participants should preferably
have completed some years of study and research after a first degree. Senior academic
members are also welcome to participate. The school will be conducted in English.
We encourage participants to secure their own funding for travel and subsistence from
their home institution. Limited funds are available for junior participants from developing
countries. Priority will be given to East African applicants.

X. LANGUAGE
English will be the official language of the school.
XI.
CURRENCY
Local currency in the Region is Rwanda franc at the foreign
exchange rate of (US$ 1 = Frw780, EUR 1 = Frw 870). There are many
local Forex Bureaus in Kigali, which charge no commission. Banks
and Forex bureaus accept traveler’s cheques and major credits are
also accepted at leading hotels and restaurants.
XII. VISA
Visa may be required for International visitors to Rwanda. Please
check with the respective local Embassy for details and health
requirements. Letters of invitation will be issued to participants upon
request for the processing of traveling documents. For African
citizens, visa is issued upon your arrival to Airport at Kigali.
XIII. ACCOMMODATION
Hotel accommodation is from US$ 40 to US$ 250 per night.
Food ranges from US$ 3.00 to US$ 20.00 a meal.
