Spring 2017 Faculty Inquiry Project: Engaging students in the digital

Faculty Development Office
Faculty Inquiry Project: Engaging Students in a Digital Age
This faculty inquiry project will explore the topic of emerging technologies and how they
can be used to enhance the educational experience. Participants will help decide the
exact focus of discussions, but questions to be addressed will include: What types of
technology will students expect to see in their courses in the next decade? How will
developments such as adaptive learning, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things,
and augmented and virtual reality impact you as an educator? How can faculty
members capitalize on student technology expertise? How do faculty members
efficiently acquire new tech skills?
Rick Hughes, Professor, Media Arts, and Robert Squires, Director, UM Online, will join the
group to demystify some of the technology currently available and introduce
possibilities for your courses. Faculty participants will have the opportunity to develop
specific course elements over the semester.
Inquiry projects are designed for faculty members who want to address a professional
topic in a collective and scholarly way. They provide a collegial setting in which faculty
members from across disciplines learn from one another.
Application due date: Friday, February 10 at 5:00 p.m. Submit applications to the
Faculty Development Office; 303 Todd Bldg., or by email to [email protected].
