Read daily with your child and to your child. Record
your reading in the monkey reading record.
Learn to read ‘Red words’ by sight.
Share non-fiction books about different places.
Write directions or label maps from walks or
journeys you go on.
We would love you to send in a photo of you and
your child sharing a book in an unusual place.



Encourage your child to use
expressive voices when reading
stories. When listening to stories,
encourage them to join in with
repeated phrases.
Create artwork linked to any
journey you take or place you visit.
Listen to a selection of music from
different countries and cultures
and share your opinions of it.
Communication and Language
 When talking with your child encourage
careful listening and challenge your child to
ask relevant questions to find out more.
 Model the correct use of tenses when
children say them incorrectly.
 Please support our new ‘What’s in the Box?’
project when it is your child’s turn- you will
need to help your child think of some clues
and write them down.
Understanding the World
 Go on journeys and make maps and pictures of
the things you see on the way.
 Go on a bus or train ride and bring the ticket in to
school to share with your friends.
 Use technology to find out about places you have
visited or read about.
 Talk about and share significant family
celebrations.
 Support children to join in safely with any
recycling routines at home.

Practice counting daily. Count forwards and backwards.
Estimate amounts and then count to check.
Hunt for shapes out and about.
Spot and read digits out and about.
Play number games such as bingo.
Talk to your child about money when shopping.
Personal Social and Emotional
Development
 Continue to talk about rules and
routines from school, home and
when you visit new places.
 Talk to your children about how
their actions may make other
people feel.
 Play turn taking games at home
and practise winning and losing.
Talk about what we say when we
win and if we lose.
 Ask your child how they have
been an ant, tortoise
or owl.
