Red deer- CERVUS ELAPHUS L.
The red deer is a symbol of the Bulgarian hunting preservs. Because of the rich natural
biotope and the good management, there are particularly strong populations with very good
trophy qualities – with vigorous, beautiful and symmetric crowns, dark antlers with many
pearls, with long and even spikes and white ends.
In Bulgaria the red deer is hunted walking and from high seat. During the mating period,
the hunting is most successful and is an unforgettable experience.
In many hunting areas red deer trophies over 9-10 kg can be gained. Hunting areas located
in Northeast Bulgaria offer capital trophies over 12-14 kg. The red deer in the mountainous
areas in Rhodope Mountain, Vitosha, and Balkan (Old) Mountain have weight between 7-9
kg. The heaviest trophy in Europe - 19,2 kg., is gained in the region of Balchik (at the Black
Sea).
During the last hunting season, more than 20 trophies were obtained, all over 230 CIC
points.

Wild boar- SUS SCROFA L.
In Bulgaria, wild boar hunting is much loved, preferred and traditional. Hunting is from
high seat, driven hunting, and in some hunting regions – walking and stalking. There are very

good wild boar trophies in all parts of the country. Typical for the mountainous parts is the
large width of the tusks, which assures high evaluation and at least, a bronze medal.
The most frequently shot wild boars have tusks with length 20-24 cm, and usually get
silver and gold medals. Wild boars with length of tusks over 24 cm are often shot. The best
time for hunting form high seat is just before or after full moon, from November until March.
Many capital wild boars evaluated to over 120 CIC points were gained in 2006.
The national record was shot in Rhodope Mountain and its appraisal is 158,20 CIC points.
For 18 years (until 2004) it was the World record as well.

Driven hunting is emotional and attractive experience on the territory of the whole
country, in high mountains and plains. Hunting can take place in open areas, as well as in
special large hunting enclosures (over 300 ha). The chasing dogs, the running game and tense
expectation – you can personally feel this in many hunting regions in Bulgaria.

Fallow deer- CERVUS DAMA L.
This large game has been acclimatized 150 years ago. Its management is especially
successful through the last 30-40 years. Unlike Western Europe, in Bulgaria the fallow deer
lives also in the nature. There are only few enclosures, but they cover large territories – up to
4000 ha. This is the reason that the fallow deer has kept its game instincts and is hard for
hunting. During its mating season, hunting on trophy species is very successful. Trophies of
3-4 кg can be gained. In some hunting areas because of its population’ density, selective
programmes are offered. Hunting is through stalking or from high seat.

Mouflon- OVIS MUSIMON PALL.
The mouflon has also been acclimatized decades ago and now is developing very well in
many areas of Bulgaria. Proof of that is the extraordinary trophy with 234, 40 CIC points shot
in Hunting Area “Voden”. You should know that the mouflon is managed and hunted only in
enclosures, although they are large in territory. Its horns are long and symmetric– between 8090 сm, and it is a favourite trophy for many hunters. Hunting is through stalking and from
high seat.

Roe deer- CAPREOLUS CAPREOLUS L.
From end of spring until beginning of autumn the large game rests. Only hunting on roe
bucks is allowed during this period. In May or in the beginning of June, the most suitable time
is early morning or at nightfall. The other good possibility is in September and October. In
Bulgaria, the roe deer inhabits lowlands and mountains also. Hunting on roe bucks is not easy,
but waiting and stalking is worthy for a trophy with a weight of 300-450g. (in mountainous
Hunting Areas) and 400-550 g (in the lowlands of Northeast Bulgaria). The trophies of the
Bulgarian roe deer are symmetric; antlers are long and with lots of pearls.

Capercaillies - TETRAO UROGALLUS L.
Bulgaria is one of not many countries in Europe, where this rare and valuable trophy can
be obtained. Leaking of the cock at dawn, before the sunrises, in the virgin forests, the good
hunting organization and the professional guide - this is what you can be able to feel in some
of the Hunting Areas. The natural habitats of the capercaillies are high in Rhodope Mountains
and Rila, and during the winter are hard to hunt because of the thick snow. Capercaillies with
a weight between 4-5 кg can be shot.
Term of hunting: 15.04. - 15.05.
Only cocks are subject to hunting. For shot cock - 1000 €.

Chamois - RUPICAPRA RUPICAPRA L.:
The Chamois hunting is carried out under a special regime, fixed in the Biological variety
law, accordingly the directives of European Union.
The chamois inhabits all high mountains of Bulgaria – Rila, Rodope, Pirin and Balkan
Mountain. The local variety is Rupicarpa Balkanika. Its hunting areas are usually over 1800 m
altitude. Its hunting is hard, but extremely emotional. Stalking in the virgin and untouched by
human biotopes is an unforgettable experience. In Rodope Mountains can be hunted even
over 800 m altitude. The offered trophies are between 85-110 CIC points, predominantly 95
CIC points.

Carnivores
In Bulgaria, their population is very high, so their hunting is allowed. In not many
countries in Europe, carnivores are known as local game, or if there are any, they are under
special regime. Their hunting is very rarely allowed. During the winter months, you can
successfully hunt on wolfs and jackals through stalking, from a high seat or even taking part
in driven hunting.
Annually hundreds of foxes are shot, as well as about 300 wolfs and 4000 jackals.

Additional conditions
А/ The trophies’ price (red deer, fallow deer and roe deer) are being calculated according
to their weight, measured 24 hours after their processing. In the cases when the trophies have
been weighted before the expiration of this term, 5 % of the weight is subtracted to take
account of moisture.
B/ The Hunting Areas guarantee up to 15% accuracy in shooting of the requested trophy
(except for the wild boar). For mistakes over 15%, the hunter has the right to refuse to take
the trophy. Nevertheless, if he/she is willing to take it – the real price is to be paid, not the
requested one.
C/ For shot and found big game (except for driven and individual hunt of wild boar), 50%
of the price of shot game should be paid (for the trophy game according the application).
