Eagle Springs Elementary Team Wins District Stock Market Game
HOUSTON COUNTY, GA – Eagle Springs Elementary School’s Stock
Market Team won 1st place in the District Stock Market fall
competition. The team will be recognized at an awards reception in
Atlanta in May, hosted by the Georgia Council on Economic
Education.
Winning team members are: (pictured from left) Camryn Moghaddam,
Trevor Hill, Serenity Journey and Makiya Williamson, accompanied by
advisor Dawn Stuckey. The students invested a hypothetical portfolio
of $100,000 over 10 weeks. Their simulated portfolio value at the
end of the 10-week trading session was $117,102.87.
The Georgia Council on Economic Education hosts the Stock Market
Game each year for grades 5-12. Economic education is about
financial literacy and the economic forces that impact everyone's
financial circumstances. With equity markets as the model, the game
gives Georgia’s teachers a tool to teach students how scarcity, trade,
opportunity cost, voluntary exchange, price incentive, specialization, productivity and other
economic concepts impact financial institutions. Unlike real equity markets, the Stock Market Game
offers students a safe and pain-free place to learn that the lessons of market economics can
sometimes be costly.
The top five Houston County teams and the portfolio amounts in the fall competition are as follows:
1st - Eagle Springs Elementary – Teacher Dawn Stuckey - $117,102.87
2nd - Hilltop Elementary - Teacher Earnestine McRae - $113,045.56
3rd - Parkwood Elementary -Teacher Gary Matthews - $106,494.56
4th - Eagle Springs Elementary- Teacher Dawn Stuckey - $105,797.60
5th - Thomson Middle – Teacher Kevin Holt - $105,620.59.
Eagle Springs Elementary School is located at 3591 Highway 41 North in Byron. Dr. Andrea McGee
serves as principal. For more information, please contact Stuckey at 478-953-0450 or visit
