Community Lacrosse Development Officer Overview
Community Lacrosse Development Officers are based in a local authority or county and support
identified lacrosse clubs, working with the community and local schools recruiting players and coaching
lacrosse. Your role will involve working with children and adults of different ages in a variety of
environments as well as coaching Club teams such as U15, U18 and senior teams.
The key role of a CLDO is to recruit players from schools, colleges and universities to join their club.
You will work closely with club programme managers to develop lacrosse in the local area leading to
increased participation across the country.
You will coach different forms of lacrosse depending on age range, this will be POP lacrosse for primary
school children moving onto field and INTO lacrosse for secondary schools and universities. Along with
coaching different age groups, you will be expected to referee/umpire games on weekends for these
teams.
The English Lacrosse Association will provide:
1. A contract of employment between the Community Lacrosse Development Officer, English
Lacrosse and the host clubs/ organisations.
2. An induction course for each candidate that includes a Level 2 coaching award course. Dates
for CLDO Induction Course prior to the start of school academic year.
3. An agreed monthly salary, including National Insurance and expenses.
4. A management manual for guidance.
5. Coordinate the monthly schedule
6. CPD throughout the employment, including coach educator and assessor training
7. An English Lacrosse Regional Coordinator to assess the programme, programme assistance and
troubleshooting.
8. A general team meeting in December and regional meetings on a regular basis.
9. Ongoing evaluation support.
The Clubs will provide:
1. The clubs and English Lacrosse will enter into a contract which will include the CLDO as a third
party.
2. A Programme Manager to work directly with English Lacrosse and the CLDO.
3. An outline of tasks including school requirements (with contacts), club sessions and total
number of teaching hours.
The Community Lacrosse Development Officer will provide:
1. Quality lacrosse coaching in all areas of the weekly schedule (club, University, curriculum and
extra curriculum time).
2. Suitable planning for all sessions undertaken in both curriculum, extra curriculum and at club
practices.
3. Support for the Physical Education curriculum by selecting teams where appropriate, arranging
fixtures and refereeing matches at POP lacrosse, LAX and field.
4. Recruits for each identified programme, at an identified age level.
5. Assistance in developing and maintaining identified club lacrosse programmes.
6. Officiating as necessary.
7. Support other ELA development programmes externally, as relevant, with prior
agreement with the host club.
The Community Lacrosse Development Officer is responsible for the following:

A copy of your birth certificate.
A current level 2 lacrosse coaching and level 1 officiating certification completed with English
Lacrosse (both can be obtained as part of EL induction)
Personal coaching attire.
A signed and completed Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) form provided by English Lacrosse after
interview.
A complete on line safeguarding children course certificate, access provided by English
Lacrosse.
A national insurance number.

English Lacrosse Regional Coordinator
This is a key role in the development of the sport focusing on improving the
recreational and performance lacrosse. The CLDO will work closely with
designated clubs management teams, EL Regional Co-ordinators and support
identified EL events. The CLDO will provide reporting information to further
lacrosse development and provide insight into lacrosse participation.

Essential
 A minimum of four years club, BUCS or school lacrosse
 Previous experience of delivering sport to young people (either as a
leader or as coach)
Desirable
 EL Level 2 Coaching Award (or equivalent)
 Level 1 Coaching Award in one or more sports


Main Duties

 Knowledge surrounding issues affecting young people
 To deliver high quality lacrosse coaching as part of the physical
education curriculum and extra-curricular activities within local
primary and secondary schools ensuring that all activities delivered
are in line with the Primary School Curriculum and OFSTED
guidelines.
 To deliver high quality lacrosse coaching within community and HEI
lacrosse clubs.
 Manage relationship with schools including scheduling and invoicing
 To deliver extra-curricular lacrosse as identified.
 To coach identified field lacrosse teams at designated clubs.
 To be part of the Education and Skills tutor and assessor group, to
deliver coach and teacher education, as appropriate when suitably
trained.
 Undergo ongoing training and development provided by the EL
 To deliver on the Boys and / or Girls Academy training sessions, as
one of the coaching staff.
 To deliver on English Lacrosse camps (Triple Arrow and Mohawk), as
one of the coaching staff.
 To collect the appropriate monitoring information.
 To ensure all activities are correctly monitored with the appropriate
risk assessments and health and safety procedures put in place
 To be a flexible member of the EL coaching team and when
requested assist in the delivery of other projects and activities
including evenings and weekends
The position is for up to 1 year with a three month probationary period and
annual review of the role. The term can be extended through ongoing
discussion.
