Credit card payment FAQ 1. Which credit cards are accepted

Credit card payment FAQ
1. Which credit cards are accepted?
Students and authorized payers can make payments online with Visa, MasterCard,
DISCOVER, or American Express.
2. Can I pay with a debit card?
Yes, but you will still pay the non-refundable service fee of 2.75 percent of the payment
amount at the time of each debit card payment. You can avoid the service fee by using
e-check instead. Select the online e-check payment option and enter your bank routing
and account number.
3. Why do I have to pay a 2.75 percent service fee to pay with a credit card and how is it
determined?
The 2.75 percent rate is established by our vendor NelNet to cover the credit card
transaction fees assessed by credit card companies. It is based on the payment amount
for each transaction. CU does not receive any part of the service fee.
4. Is there any way I can avoid paying a service fee?
You can avoid paying the 2.75 percent service fee by paying online with e-check using
your checking or savings account. Payments can also be mailed or delivered in person at
your campus Bursar’s Office.

5. Is the service fee refundable?
No, the 2.75 percent service fee is non-refundable. Service fee disputes must be taken
directly to your credit card company.
6. What if I make a credit card payment for more than I owe on my student account?
CUBill&Pay will not accept amounts higher than you owe.
7. Can I pay with a credit card over the phone or in person?
No, we don’t accept credit card payments over the phone and in person at this time.
8. What happens if I make a mistake when I enter my credit card information online?
If a credit card number or other personal information is entered that is inconsistent with
your credit card account, the payment will be rejected immediately. If the payment is
rejected, you will be told that you are over your credit limit. You will be able to view all
past rejected payments in your transaction history.
9. How do I know my credit card number is safe if I provide it?
See information about Security.
10. How will I know if my payment is approved?
Credit card payments will be instantly approved and an online receipt will be issued to
you. Your account balance will update immediately with your payment amount.
11. Can I pay part of my bill with a credit card and part with e-check?
Yes. Follow the instructions for How to View and Pay Itemized Bill for each type of
payment you would like to make.
12. I have a credit balance on my account. How will I get a refund if I paid with a credit card?
Refunds for tuition and fees initially paid by credit card will be refunded to the credit
card company. The service fee will not be refunded.
13. Why can't I see the service fee on my student account?
The service fee is assessed by Nelnet, not CU, so it will not appear on your student
account. However, students and authorized payers will be able to see the service fee in
the transaction history within CUBill&Pay. The service fee will also appear as a separate
charge on your credit card statement.
14. How can I stop an online payment if I made a mistake?
If you make a payment online by mistake, please contact the Bursar’s Office Student
Billing Department at 303-492-5381 (or if you are enrolled at Continuing Education, call
303-492-2213) by 4:00 pm on the day of the transaction. If the mistake is made by credit
card, the service fee cannot be refunded.
15. Can I use a credit card check or investment account to pay online?
No. Credit card check accounts or investment account checks, commonly called credit
card convenience checks or advance checks, cannot be used for electronic payment.
16. Will the service fee appear on my confirmation e-mail?
You will receive two e-mails after a credit card payment is made. One e-mail confirms
the actual amount paid to CU. The second e-mail confirms the 2.75 percent service fee
charged to your credit card by NelNet.
