Identifying Your Contact’s Status
Your contacts will have several different states that you should be aware of. Their status
will show up in your roster pane.
1. Online status – When a user is online the Jabber icon will appear as a light bulb
that is all yellow. This can be seen in the image below.
2. Offline status – When a user is offline the Jabber icon appears grey with an x
through it. This can be seen in the image below.
3. Away status – An away status is an indicator that the user is idle. This can be seen
when a clock appears next to the Jabber icon. This can be seen in the image
below.
4. Do not disturb status – A do not disturb status indicates that your contact does not
want to receive messages at this time. This can be seen as a Jabber light bulb with
a do not sign next to it. This can be seen in the image below.

groups as folders on a file system. You are initially given one group called Friends. All of
your contacts are placed in this group by default.
Creating a New Group
1. Right Click on the Friends Group and choose “New Group.”
2. Name the group in the text field of the New Roster Group Screen. Click OK

The new group now appears in your roster
* You can nest groups by placing a “/” in the group name. For example the name of a
new group could be “Good Friends”. If you want the new group to appear under
“Cool People” group you would name the new group “Cool People/Good Friends”.
